Charizard for Defence

Today I caught my first Charizard. It cost me 31 Great Balls and Razz Berries. It has Air Slash/ Dragon Claw. I know it is terrible for attack(except for grass and Dragonite). But what about defense? Dragon Claw is a 3 bar charge move and it is a good defensive charge move. Air Slash/ Dragon Claw is rated A. So what do you think about using it on defence?

Congrats on the Charizard!

I really can't say with the gym rework coming so soon. With what we know now about the current system, the 3-bar charge might hit more, but Charizard's max cp/weaknesses would be obvious problems.

Anything that have double weakness is crap for defence, unfortunately.

Charizard looks tough in appearance... kind of like a less friendly Dragonite. However, in reality it is not an especially good attacker and an even worse defender. Regardless of whether the rework considers CP or not, there will be dozens of species that are better defenders than Charizard, even if you had an ideal moveset. As I mentioned in another post, one thing Charizard can be useful for is prestiging DG Blisseys (or grass & bug types, if they start appearing in gyms after rework), but you'd want a different moveset.

I am powering mine up cuz I like charizard. He's not a very good defender but there are no good defenders, except for blissey towers, but you need a team of blissey.

I'm with you. I am earning enough candy to take my 93% fs/o past 30. In addition to that a have quite the collection of strange mons powered up to 35 including Volteon, Steelix, Slowqueen, Exeggutor, & a Shiny Gyarados(okay those last two are pretty normal). Naturally I have a few of the big 7s powered up past the threshold of 30. Not to mention plenty more obscure ones on standby!
