Gym system sucks still
No matter the CP update, gyms are still not worth prestiging, and fall way to easily.
I mean there is so much talk about defenders and all... and still it is not worth powering up a defender.
What do you guys think?

A town of 60.000 people with ca. 20 Gyms. I am regularely in smaller towns around so I have 30 to 40 Gyms I regularely visit. I simply look for good opportunities and place a PKM, when Gym is weekly defended or easy to train.
Last weekend, in a city of 500.000, there was more change. But one of the gyms i took and placed a defender in was trained by an unknown stranger, now it is level 10 and lasts for the 4th day. :-)
Guess, i am lucky.
Do people still train gyms up in your area?
In my town pretty much only team Mystic does, and even then not all the time. Most gyms are level 3 at most from people just putting pokemon in, trained up ones are level 5 or 6 and even then they're not a challenge to take down.
When I collect Pokecoins I just catch some cannon fodder on the way to the gym, place it in, collect as much as I can, and when the gym gets taken over, just transfer, because putting in a strong Pokemon wouldn't deter attackers anyway given how easy gyms are to defeat.
Yes I agree Jimlock, especially since you can take down a level 10 gym in... maybe 5 total battles? A very short time in other words.
But, I expect Niantic realises that people are not happy with the changes, and they'll make another update soon, just hopefully not too much in the other direction again(!)
You're looking at it way different than me you are counting per 1-1. I am counting battles when I pick my 6 pokemon and enter the gym.
Even the way your counting, by pokemon defeated, you're wrong because the Gym goes down in rank after you beat it. You don't end up beating 45 Battles
It's more like 35-36 with 7 Full Clear Bonuses not 5 Full Clears
It's impossible to keep it balanced for rural vs towns vs big cities.
The current setup is ideal for some and not for others. They are changing things constantly, give them time.
I don't think we were expected to hold 10 gyms for any amount of time anyway. I'm not saying I like the system(I hate it) but at least it's not all lvl 10 of my color now so I can get in if I want and other teams have a chance.
Jimlock, I am having the same experience. Too difficult to train-up gyms, to easy to take them down. It has lead to lot of turnover, or rip and run dynamic in my area, small metropolitan, 600k-900k population. Gyms rarely surpass lvl. 7, and even if they do manage to achieve that, they are still wiped out within a day or 2. No gym, I repeat, no gyms lasts more than a few days.
I'm basically happy getting 5 in a day. Before in our city I had about 4 in level 8-10 gyms that stayed consistently and then was able to nab a few more each day to get 7-8. In our city there is a lot of competition and gyms no longer stay for more than a day.
So now I'm happy snagging 5 and going on my way. Any more than 5 and some of the early gyms I grabbed usually get taken. It is what it is.
I only bother training a gym that looks like it has some potential and has some higher pokemon in it already. If someone is tossing some crappy 1100 pokemon in the gym I'm not bother training it.
I'd rather see a level 3-4 gym with all 2200+ pokemon at it as it is easier to prestige up.
Yeah, the gym scene in my town is dead. Group play is dead. Prior to the ridiculous gym patch we had a team and we worked together.
Now the team is dead. Almost all the gyms are level 3 or 4. No point in collecting creatures as pretty much any creature will work just as well.
Now it is just GPS spoofers.
The real players are quitting. We had a rain storm recently that went on for hours and even the gyms that are at the beach and require you to walk 1 mile were going down during the rain storm as the spoofers were not affected by the weather.
Dumb.
I haven't seen a gym higher than level 4 since the update, it's pretty bleh... I used to really enjoy knocking down high level towers, but they just nowhere to be found. I did actually level a friendly level 3 gym to 4 today just since it was probably going to take less time than seeking out another rival lvl 3 gym and wanted my double dust. I was probably wrong, it was super annoying.
I can only hope with all these events they are trying desperately to get the casual player more "competitive". Pretty much handing them everything on a platter, which is fine. I just really hope that once the training wheels are taken off we can get back to a realistic battle over territory and gym consumables, cuz this is terrible.
