Houndoom Doom! Cursed species?
Hi Folks,
Houndoom is my favorite Pokemon since the good old gold/chrystal days. Since the launch of gen 2 I farm houndor regularly, whenever it nested in my reach. My dearest wish would be to get one with snarl/foul play. I dont care the fact, that houndoom is not incredibly viable in the current meta. Those are the results until now:
85 % snarl/crunch
85 % snarl/fireblast
87% snarl/fireblast
87 % snarl/fireblast
87% snarl/crunch
89 % firefang/crunch
91 % snarl/fireblast
91 % snarl/crunch
93 % snarl/fireblast
93 % firefang/fireblast
All in all I evolved 10 houndoom and didnt get the moveset I wanted. I got 4 times snarl/fb and 3 times sn/c. Not a single one got foul play! I am really curious about the odds of this to happen. Could somebody do the math for me? Oddly enough the only umbreon I evolved of course received sn/fp! I wont give up of course. I am positive to get one with ff/fp next ;). Did you ever had a pokemon species that was cursed? My other one was golem. I evolved 10 during the last event (saved a lot of pinap before) and only the 10th got the desired rt/se. I hope this thread can give solace to other people who experienced similarly bad of odds! :)

Some species always seem to give me high IV (e.g. Nidoran female, Geodude, Mr. Mime) while others (Slowpoke, Teddiursa, Swinub, Rhyhorn, Chikorita, Pinsir) give almost everything low-medium IV.
Move sets as well: of all 3 evolved Ursaring, all of them had Metal Claw - Play Rough.
Of my Starmies, every time I evolve one it has a different type of Hidden Power than I already had.
I always get High IV Teddiursa. Actually caught a 100% in the wild. one of my 2 100% babies. I think some movesets favor people. Some people complain about certain movesets they can't get but i can get them first try, also vise Versa. I tend to get better attacking movesets for some reason as well. In general i do not think i can get a good ice IV pokemon.
for every evolve the chance is 5 times out of 6 your are getting an undesired moveset (if you only want snarl/foul play)
so i'm not a mathematician but for 10 times not getting this desired moveset would be:
[(5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5)/(6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6)]x100 = (5^10)/(6^10)x100 = 16%
i'm not certain about this, mathematics is like 15 years ago for me
Definitely. Crunch hits the opponents very slow (3.2s) just like Ancient Power (3.5s). You are very likely to get hit seriously if opponents are about to use charge moves. For this reason I really hate using 3-bar charge moves with such a long cool down. With Foul Play you can use it in between opponents' attacks.
