For one Congrats. And for two yeah if the rework doesn't change the battiling to much and takes cp away. Lapras will be #2 or 3 again. Because back in Gen 1 she was actually a better defender than Snorlax. Now not so much. But yeah I am jealous. I caught one with that set he has about 300 cp and total garbage ivs. So I would power that bad girl up. I am jealous of you.

Betting on Lapras
I recently hatched a 91% IV Lapras with Fb/Ib. I got 39 candies now and in hope of her getting buffed during the gym rework I am now keeping her as my Buddy. Can there be anything wrong with that?

Nothing wrong if you are a fan of Lapras...Safer to actually just wait for the full gym update and plan/do then.
I'm walking Dratini due to Dnite simply having superior stats all around...
T-rex is good too simply having better stats overall. (I already have 270+ Larvitar candies and am just waiting for one with high IVs now).
Having walked a Lapras for about 300km, if rankings or CP or whatever is still there, it'd be wasted distance...I never use my Lapras in gyms anymore.
I am good for now with T-Rex candy. My first evolved Larvitar happened to be B/Se an it is at 3300 CP.
Walking Dratini would be an option but it seems all my luck has been used already since all 3 of my evolved Nites managed to get the beloved Sw/Hb or Sw/Hc. Therefore I have somehow given up on them and I am not feeling like evolving another Dratini any time soon. (Also I don't aquire candy very quickly...)
Nah walk her. She is a strong ice mon so you'll find use for her. Plus unless something really changes FB is a great attacking move. Whether she'll ever be CP relevant again is kind of irrelevant. It's more important to wonder if there will still be Dragonites to attack. Either way it will be a while before you have enough candies to power her significantly so you might hit upon a better moveset for defense if she becomes a defender again.

Jynx with Frost Breath/Avalanche, Cloyster with Frost Breath/Avalanche or Ice Shard/Avalanche, and Piloswine with Powder Snow/Avalanche are all excellent attackers against Drgaonite. Both Dewgong with Frost Breath/Blizzard and Sneasel with Feint Attack/Avalanche or Ice Shard/Avalanche perform very well as prestigers. I believe this covers all the fully evolved ice mon currently in the game, so I am not sure why you claim most are pretty terrible when none are deserving of that appellation.
I have them all and use them at times except Piloswine. For multiple Dragons (which in my area is every gym) they are indeed mostly fragile trash compared to a Lapras. If you run in to level one gyms with one Dragonite and you do not have more than 10 seconds to battle other options work fine.
Prestigers are different, yes several do that ok.
