triple XP catch vs mass evolve
With triple XP for catching, can you get as many XP with a lucky egg as you would get for a mass evolve?
TLDR: kind of
here's the math (I did this for 30mins, but actually it's just a XP/time comparison, length of time doesn't matter):
1- I usually get 60-65 evolution on a lucky egg, I know others do more, but with my phone that's all I get. So Let's say 65000 XP in total
2- Almost all my catch are in the 150-210 XP range usually, let's say 180 XP to be conservative. Tripled and double with an egg that's 1080 XP.
3- it would take about 60 catches at that rate to get as much as a 65 mons mass evolve.
4- I measured how long a catch is from clicking on the mon to returning to the map (1 throw) =26sec. 60 catches at 26sec each is 26 min. So it leaves 4 mins for extra throws, walking to find more spawns...
Obviously this requires to be in a place so dense that you can get 60 spawns in 30min. But, besides that caveat, triple XP brings about as much XP as a mass evolve, maybe a little less.

If you have the spawn density, I think it's worth it, but unless you are actually playing in a high spawn place, it's hard to get 60 spawns...I just did my walking loop today and did 16 mons in 15 minutes...I suppose with incense and walking faster, I could get maybe 10 more...add in a few more if I walked another 15 minutes and maybe you can have 35 or so. 35x best case of 1260 exp = 44100exp which is like a regular lucky egg evolution without the double exp event.
I get about 65k extra during double exp evolving parties, but lucky eggs are pretty cheap so if you are out playing in a dense spawn place, it's probably worth it just to take advantage of it...
Even though hatching is 5x, as someone else mentioned, hatching 2x 5km eggs = 5000 exp too so rush hatching 10km eggs during this event yields the same exp if you were to be under lucky eggs with 5km or 2km as well...
I think you'll be lucky to get 40-45 mons in 30 mins, I timed this a few days ago (thinking ahead) and only got 32, but some dead time after the first few loops in the park.
Also, FYI in case you don't know this, if you're mass-hatching eggs, when the first animation starts you can exit the app, restart, and all the PKM will be hatched with XP awarded correctly - a huge time-saver.
