I have hatched 3 Snorlax total during my pokemon career and caught a handful on top. I powered up one so far and collected enough candy during the event to be able to power up a second one. One of the caught ones is interesting so after my maxed ZH/BS Snorlax with 76% IV there are three options.

Lvl 20 89% IV ZH/EQ Lvl 20 80% IV L/HB Lvl 18 80% IV ZH/HB

I want my Snorlax to be a defender, I have enough attackers! Would you power one of those guys up? Would you rather wait on another one with ZH/HS or one with higher IVs with ZH/HB, or is ZH/EQ enough?

Thanks in advance!

I powered up my 69% BAA with ZH/HB, he's a great defender. HB is just really easy to dodge.

That's it! All of Snorlax moves are kind of suboptimal atm...and simply weak in comparison to BS. Could wait and hope for better moves with a change coming with an update?

I say power up the 89%. Earthquake isn't the best move, but since you want a defender, IV is more important than moveset. Unless you are constantly hatching eggs or you are sure that you'll get a higher IV Snorlax with a better moveset, just power up the 89%, even with the less than ideal moves.

No No No dont only go for ivs this post above is 100% wrong dont do it. If you want to know what I would do here it is. Jusy simply wait for a better one with either higher ivs ZH/HB 90%+ or a ZH/HS 82.2%+

So what you are saying here is that you would prefer HS to HB? And therefore would sacrifce IVs and accept lower CP?

My Snorlax is 77% IV something and has BS. I would power up mine. Besides I have never hatched more than 1 Snorlax...

Yes HS is much better on defence. It comes alot more often and hits Tyranitar one of the best attackers for Super Effective. But of course any with BS even as low as 67.7% (lowest from eggs) I would always recommend over any other. But sadly it is now legacy.

Gregoire,

Don't just look at the IVs, check out each mons max cp potential. Just basing your decision on IVs can be misleading.
My 67 IV snorlax has a higher Max CP than my 80 IV snorlax.
My 67 also has ZH/BS, my 80 has ZH/HB.
Guess which one I'm powering up first? Yup the 67 IV one.

Yep, I have a 62IV Snorlax that I caught on my block and didn't think much of it. Until they made BS better and it became a legacy moveset. Luckily my Snorlax has 14Attack so his CP isn't too bad actually for being 62%. I continue to power him up when I get the candies.

As for HB vs HS - yes Heavy Slam is better for defense. My 89% ZH/HS Snorlax is next on my list to power up, over my HB ones.

I don't know what you mean about having enough candy to power one up, but unless you have enough to take one all the way up to level 33 or so, I would do one of two things:

  1. Power up the L/HB to CP 2300-2400 or so, for use as an attacker. I know you say you have enough attackers, but do you have a Snorlax attacker? It's essentially like a super Wigglytuff, and can fill the same generalist niche that Wiggly does for prestiging. In other words, use it as your sixth attacker to handle any defender when your specialists falter sooner than expected. L/HB Snorlax is actually a very fun and reliable attacker to use against almost anything.
  2. Save your candies until you have enough to power up the ZH/EQ to a level that will get a decent spot in high-level gyms (level 33+ in my area). You just might hatch a better one (say, ZH/HS, or higher IV's) in the meantime.
