Creepy - How does Niantic know my pool is open?

OK - I've been playing since January.

And, just recently, water Pokemon started popping up near my condo complex's pool. It opened on Memorial Day.

How the *#@( did Niantic figure out we opened the pool?

Someone noted it on one of the various maps they source like OSM.

I have the exact opposite situation , all the complex spawn nothing , make it water Pokemon or any thing else ,any thing I can do to change that ? Steps would be appreciated

Your best bet is to use the search function on Silph road and keyword (OSM biomes changes). There is too much to post here. And it's complicated as hell as well as ethical restrictions.
