How the heck everybody has a Tyranitar
Is it only me or what is going on?
I mean, i have not a single larvitar.. no need to talk about the tRex..
During the first hours of adventure week i saw a few on the - one and only- pokestop in town. Which is placed on a graveyard. I live in Germany. It was 11pm.
Never the less somehow a lot of dudes in gyms around me managed to get their. tyranitar. And you guys here around (with questions and Screenshots) seem to have them as well.
Are there nests? I mean come on.. i think most of the days i Play effective (moving thru pokestops or at least some spawnpoints) 15-60min..got Not a single larvitar.. How is it possible? Any other frequently players without one?

Well, I can speak for myself, only have caught 3 Larvitar in the wild, 2 during the rock event, one before that. I am in a water/grass biome and they are hugely rare from the wild here. I have managed to get and max out a Tyranitar almost exclusively from egg hatches, I think the count is at 8 hatches since gen2 released. They are not rare at least for me, I get them from 10km eggs more than Dratini or anything else, I have got even more of them than Pineco or Mantine (maybe something biome related or the stops I go).
Also during the Eggstravaganza event I was running 9 incubators almost all the time, spend around 5k coins that week from gyms I had been saved previously, normally I get 8-10 gyms and save all the coins for the next egg or 2xcandy related event unless I find my bag with 9 10km eggs, then I buy 2-3 incubators, hatch some, and repeat the process with the infinite incubator.
I walk everyday 5km at least so 1-2 eggs are hatched and replaced everyday.
8hatches.. wow.. but i don't get it :D
For some reason i hatched 5 Togepi, what i read is pretty rare.
I actually don't know my biome. It's a lot of pidgey, weedle, eevee, spinarak, hoothoot, sentret. See frequently rattata, jigglypuff and nidorans. Some Abras, clefairy and seals.
Since Gen2 i get mainly gligar out of 10k's.. Sure some pineco and mantine..
Also got some dratini, a mareep, 100iv miltank. Thats what i remember.
...but not a single larvitar.
Guess thats bad luck. I hate niantic for this 1-2 hour larvitar boost in the middle of EU-nights
It is just a matter of RNG, pure luck mixed with a lot of hatches, how many hatches you have? I am at 1150 now. Another thing that has worked for me is not hatching a 10k inmediately when you get it, I try to leave in my inventory always one 10km egg no matter what, it makes me fill them faster, of course I have no proof at all that this work but for me it has worked a lot, when I had my bag only with 2k and 5k all I could get where the same, but when I have at least one purple in my inventory it seem like it attracts others more frequently, I have even seen a streak of 3 10km eggs in a row from different stops something that never happened to during the hole year of the game.
Another "small" trick right now is that as each egg has its own date printed when I pick a 10km egg I instantly make a screenshot of the stop and if I get a mon I want from that hatch I make sure I go back to the same stop again, this has got me at least 2-3 more Larvitar.
Ya.. Sure it's also a question of hatched eggs.. i only have around 400..
This "Go back to the stop you got the desired mon" Part really works for you? I Always thought it's complete RNG.
Can you say there are some stops which throw at least more 10k's? Not even specially larvitar..?
I guess i try it for my next 10k's..
When i get a 10k i always loose patience and Put it immediately Into a hatcher :D
My theory is about "biome" related stops, so stops that have more chances of giving you a mon of a "particular biome or type". Of course again I can't assure anything because the data I have collected is not even close enough to make a theory, we would need probably thousands of egg hatches to confirm it. But as long as today I have tried my theory with Larvitar and Snorlax/Chansey and it has worked for me sometimes with each type of mon.
I have got 2 Snorlax and 2 Chansey from the same stop and 3 Larvitars from another stop, so again, not a confirmation, but it has worked for me and I will keep doing it, the percentage 7/10 desired is high enough to keep trying (just as a note, the other 3 eggs were 2 pineco 1 mantine)
The case of the Snorlax was what made me start doing it, because I was sitting in a bench with 2 empty spaces and no 10km eggs, spin that stop 2 times before I move from there, both of the consecutive spins, both a 10km egg, both of them hatched the following day into Snorlax. So when I try to have more chances of a Chansey or Snorlax I always go to that particular stop, my last Chansey is from there. And the same I have done with Larvitar.
If you try and it works for you too let me know, I am very interested on this ;)
I realize this is a sub thread on egg hatching but nearly all my larvitar are also from eggs. ( I have 145 candies and still waiting on good IV). Re: the same 10k egg from stops, I have had the same luck in the past visiting stops that have yielded a certain mon, chancy, larvitar, etc. but this has recently changed for me. I've received multiple different mons from same stop, Gligar, mantine, larvitar. This theory I used to swear by, no longer works for me. The mons available from a particular stop will also more occasionally shift over by 2-3 stops. This seems to be happening more frequently. I read on a post here that the eggs from stops switch when new nests come out but I think niantic has shifted everything around and it is more random now. I think I actually prefer it this way. Re: the theory of purple eggs attracting more purple eggs, I have a theory that if you are hatching a certain mon in an egg, other stops won't give you that same mon. I used to put purple eggs in an incubator right away but now wait until my egg inventory is full. This way I have been able to get multiple of same mon, 2 dratini instead of 1 for example...
honestly I get why people use the maps. I loved the 3 step feature even broken, knowing wich direction the mon was in was great. But I still sadly can't get myself to do it, something about it just doesn't feel right. But I dont hate on it like most people which this post may get me a lot of hate but... well it doesn't really bother me I am used to it. Hopefully Niantic fixes tracking soon. #F-the-pokestop-tracker
You missed me? Haha.
I didn't call anyone names. If you're referring to the Amish comment it was an analogy. I respect people who play by strict ToS rules. I got no problem with that. I've said that many times in here. But I like trackers. It kept me playing this game this long.
And about morals? I was being sarcastic. It's a frigging phone app game. ?. Some people use trackers which is clearly against ToS, and some people commit felonies or cheat the IRS. I rather do the former. Think of it as a harmless outlet to indulge on the bad side through Pokémon Go! Hahahaha.
Using a map gives players in your area an unfair advantage against players in areas without it, once PvP is released, as you will have a significantly greater access to mons that players in other areas won't.
Yes, PvP isn't released yet but once it is, just remember, when you play people from OTHER areas, you "cheated" to acquire mons that have given you an advantage
If you lived thousands of miles away I wouldn't care what mons you have to be honest. I compete locally. If my weedle was king of my town I would feel damn proud!
And if I start to envy your mewtwo that is thousands of miles away and felt that it was "unfair" then that envy may become the seed to go to the dark side and spoof. Come on didn't you watch Star Wars and the path of Anakan Skywalker?
No, not everyone. I'm still 50 candy apart from one. Caught 2 larvitar during rock event and hatched 3 from eggs. All my larvitar came during the last 2 weeks (supporting the SilphRoad research on egg hatches). In my biome never see them in the wild. So, I need to hatch at least 3 more to be able to evolve my first. Not even considering to power it up...
Level 34, still no tyranitar.
Caught one larvitar during the rock event (they never spawn here otherwise), hatched 3. One of them is my buddy, and we have 20 km to go before I will finally get my first tyranitar!
My advice, keep hatching eggs, that's your best bet. GL!
P.S. 907 eggs hatched; I usually incubate 3-5 at a time.
I saw tyranitars in gyms everywhere around me within 1 week of gen 2 coming out.
Now I see cp 3400+ all around me.
I am lvl 35, use incubators for all eggs, I have hatched 3 and walked and now have 95 candies. I need 30 more candies.
So a big FK U to all those people who use maps and say they do not effect anyone. I am sorry but you DO effect every legit person who plays properly.
I hatched one early after they were released. I have walked it 383km so far.
My biome is also reasonably generous with them - like some people get Dratini, I get Larvitar.
I suffered the same difficulty that you are experiencing, but for me the difficulty was getting Dragonite.
I finally have 2 Nite now, but I am close to getting my 3rd T-Rex to lvl30 already.
Even during the rock events, they are not easy to find. They normally spawn in the middle of private residential area, far away from any Pokestop, far away from where normal passerby would go. Even with the map, some of them will not be catchable by most trainers, unless they have permission to reach the area, or of course, spoof.
Without the event, they are very, very rare. Even with the map, most trainers will not be able to reach them in time.
Spoofers, on the other hand, catched them all, no matter what.
Niantic seem to have no sympathy for any legit trainer by intentionally hide most of those rare spawns from them. You would not even know how close you are to them but the app will show you the Rattata 2 blocks away, just because there is a stop there. And even they do show up on the Nearby, that stop may not be accessible at 3 a.m. by anyone but spoofers. So much for the "Do not tresspass while playing Pokemon Go" message...
If you had ever tried those online map and get out and hunt, you will know the differences. Spoofers have zero effort, map users still need to get their butt to those pokemon in time. I do totally understand that it is not what Niantic wants, but stop asking why people have what you do not.
The way I see is that unless Niantic comes up with the better in game tracker and much better logic for rare spawns, they will have to keep fighting map forever.
Biome specific. Just like it took me until level 34 to get my first Dragonite and I had to walk my dratini 400km as well. I always wondered how people had Dragonites and multiples of them!
Now I have 3 Tyranitars all at 2900CP+ and keep hatching Larvitars like it is my job. They spawn every so often at the park near my house and I have caught three near my work.
But dratini still don't spawn here and I rarely hatch dratini from eggs. I have hatched about 10 larvitars though.
I used the online city map to hunt 2-3 hours every nights during the rock events, driving around like crazy and now sitting at 700+ Larvitar candies. That is why I know that they spawns in places that completely legit players will not have any chance. I know that here people hate them, call me cheater, but this is the fact. Dratini on the other hand, I have no need to use the map.
Still, zero Larvitar hatch is heartbroken...
