Rhydon move set

Hey, I just evolved a 94% Rhydon and it got mud slap and earthquake as a move set. This site says that's a "b" and mud slap stone edge is an "a". Is it really a big deal? Or should I power this Rhydon up. I don't really want to keep evolving Rhyhorn's until I get the best moves but I also don't want to power up this one if it's not very good, thanks!

As long as it isn't megahorn! MS/EQ is fine!

He would work as a good Tyranitar Counter if you lack a 2x Fighting Machamp, Heracross, Ursaring, or Poliwrath. Also EQ is very tricky to dodge if that is what you need him for.

It used to be tricky because the damage would come way before the animation. After the move revamp, it's now the exact opposite. It's now as easy as Hyper Beam to dodge. You see your entire screen fill with brown and THEN the yellow flash comes. Any half decent dodger should have no problem with EQ now.

Yeah that is what makes it tricky not hard tricky because you see the animation which makes you think you failed the dodge and then when you realize you didn't its to late but that only works once so well that is a down side.

If you're using it for attack, it's pretty close to Mud Slap / Stone Edge in neutral matches. On defense, it really doesn't matter. An attacker isn't going to be deterred just because you have the ideal moveset.

The only factor that matters in defense for rhydon is iv. He's a weak defender regardless of the moveset but his cp puts him above vaps and blisseys. Attack, there are so many better options to use stardust on. I wouldn't waste dust on a rhydon unless it was high iv for gym placement.

MS/EQ actually does more damage than MS/SE against neutral targets.
SE is rated higher because it has better type coverage and shorter move duration.
IMO, MS/EQ being rated B is not justified. Same for C/CC Machamp.

i'd say hold out for a stone edge one, earthquake is naff. mud slap is a great def move but rock smash is still good so don't worry about that.

the thing about rhydons is (like several of the "top 7") they have crippling double weakness but amazing stats and good moves. it's very important to have a good moveset here - anything/stoneedge is a real threat but an enemy vaperon will walk over any other charge move.

if it helps you decide, rydons aren't good attackers into anything but snorlax or blissey but again either quick move works there but EQ is too slow and you want SE - worth powering a SE rydon up as it works in attack and defence.

edit - i'm saying SE beats EQ from personal experience, eq has a long animation and is very predictable so suffers on attack or defence IMO, stone edge may be worse on paper but it's very quick so allows extra quick attacks plus harder dodges.

You forgot Tyranitar when listing the mons he attacks good into.

Just evolved my 10th Rhyhorn, got MS/EQ. My only MS/SE was a level 1 wild caught with crap IVs.
I have 4 RS/SE and 3 MS/EQ (including this one) though.

i prefer double ground to ground/rock any day...

I think this is a good moveset since it's the same type and of the Ground types, Rhydon has the best stats currently...

Rhydon also hits hard so if someone doesn't dodge, it does hurt a bit...

All that said, there is also Rhyperior in gen 4 so even with bad moves, all the bad move Rhydon's have a chance to redeem themselves when they evolve to Rhyperior...who has monster CP.

I still struggle to find a high IV MS/SE Rhydon. I currently have 30 Rhydons (yeah our biome is insane with Rhyhorns) and I don't have a MS/SE one that is above 80%.

I do have 4 MS/EQ Rhydons with two sitting at 3100CP and the other 2 at 3000CP. I don't regret powering them up as they all sit in gyms right now.

You could be waiting forever for a MS/SE Rhydon.

I have 2 - 98% Rhydons with RS/SE ..... couldn't get MS.

Any Rhydon without megahorn is worth powering up.
