i also gotmcandies for first tyranitar and i will wait at least till aniversary. as uou said current moves have only one good option as for me. its too risky and second thing is right niw he is too easy to get down from gym and with weird movset not really useful. i also found only 1 larvitar in the wild and for sute wil wait
Tyranitar Movesets
So i have finally have the candy required to evolve my first tyranitar but i am thinking about holding off on evolving. The current moveset list for tyranitar are trash defensively. The attacking movesets are good but i don't know if they are worth the risk of landing a bite/irontail fireblast trex. I've a 2k double fighting move poliwrath that just absolutely destroys them, even those over 3k. Iknow some people will say "but everything is trash defensively". My poliwrath took out a 3200 trex with irontail stoneedge only losing a quarter of its health.
I have only caught 1 larvitar ever in the wild and that was during the event. The rest of my candy has come from hatches. Chances are i wont be evolving another. I know people wll say but new movesets could be worse. I think that is highly unlikely. What do people think?
Also i should mention i am a lvl 31 player with only 2 3K+ pokes so i really need more to help with gym placement in some areas.

Ok so... Tyranitar is trash for defence there is no other way to put it... he is an attacker. But besides that FB is not all that bad here is a 99.94% accurate list of the dpu of all of his charge moves with 0 ivs, max cp(i think)
1.Crunch(110 x3)CD: 3.20 sec
2.Fireblast(176)CD:4.20 sec
3.Stone Edge(157)CD:2.30 sec
So yeah FB stinks for dodging but it does more damage than SE so againt non DG blissey it always preforms better (charge move alone) And crunch has average CD but it is 3 bars of damage so technically it does more overall damage than the other two. And of course SE ot has a mediocre total damage but a very high dps so it is better for dodging. Also if you are curious about how that damage compares to I think the highest. Exeggutor with SoB will do 263 dpu so much higher. Also if you get IT you are kinda stuck but whatever it would still be a cool dex entry.
Random Numbers? Ok I will tell you exactly how I got these "random" numbers. Ok step one go on to Tyranitars page on this site. Step two take the DPS of the move from this site and multiply it by the CD that this site gives. And I am being very specific about how all of my information came from this site. So if I am incorrect they are as well. Also if you are not just a super jumpy kid take Yoga or Angermanagment because you could have just simply asked how I got it, like a normal person.
Ok so from my understanding dps Stab and his attack stat should already be counted in and base 140 with his super insane 260+ attack stat 176 should make perfect since because I think 180 is average attack not sure but from what I've seen pokemon with around 180 base attack do basically the moves base power so for example a normal type with 180 attack and fireblast should do about 140 with it so to me it makes sence that a pokemon without stab but a 260+ attack stat would do 176 vs 140. And of course I am open to new information because I want to know I dont care if I am wrong I just want to know how it works but you are just saying I am wrong not how I am wrong even tho what I am saying makes sence for the most part.
I am not going to try to read that wall of text.
The info you want, which includes some necessary background on the terms, is here:
https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-attack-explanation
Cliff's:
Because TrueDPS is Damage / Duration, if you multiply TrueDPS by Duration you should get Damage, which is described on that link and is also pictured below.
If you get a different number, then you did something wrong.
I'm not sure why you would want to re-arrange the terms. The point of the Damage formula is to get you to DPS, not the other way around.
I cannot blame your hesitation. I took the plunge on in a similar situation and lucked out with Bite/Stone Edge on a high IV hatch, but I was thinking the same thing while my lucky charm daughter pressed the evolve button.
Now on her account, she's 20 candies away from evolving, BUT she caught a lvl 28 93% IV, which means that even if the moveset goes south, she's got a viable "hide behind Blissey" defender from the get-go.
It's a tough call, but if you're interested in gym placement and not an attacker (which is what I was looking for), I'd say hold off until you have enough candies to both evolve AND raise him up a good hatch to level 30, which is 191 candies total.
By then you might get lucky and catch a higher level high IV candidate (unlikely, yes) or a hatch a better IV candidate. The only REAL bad outcome for going for a defender right now is Bite/Fireblast (get either of the other two Bite combos and he's meant to be an attacker).
I don't think Trex movesets are really as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I think bite & stone edge is incredible offensively. And tyranitar will never be special defensively because of its double weakness. Anyone that has a simple Vaporeon can take him out relatively easily. However, I don't think iron tail is the worst move he could have gotten defensively. And once mew and mewtwo are in the game bite crunch trex will be a legendary killer.
B/SE is a great attacker. One could make a good argument for being the best one in the game. In my opinion, it is the most important one due to its value against Blissey.
Tyranitar is not a strong defender, but this isn't an issue with movesets, for the most part. Instead it's an issue with Tyranitar's typing. Tyranitar is double weak to fighting types, and fighting types resist all possible Tyranitar STAB attacks (fighting resists both dark and rock). No moveset is going to make it a strong defender, with a triple weakness to a strong fighting type.
This doesn't mean Tyranitar is useless as a defender. It has the highest base CP in the game, allowing to sit highest at gyms with the least stardust, which is critical for a defender in the current meta... some would say the most important criteria for a defender.
I love my Iron Tail/Crunch Tyranitar. Placed him at the top of a pretty stable gym almost as soon as I had enough candies to evolve and he's been there ever since. One thing for my particular area though is that Machops are incredibly rare, so there aren't a lot of people with high powered Machamps with the best movesets. Take Machamps out of the scenario, and Tyranitar isn't that much more vulnerable than other top defenders.
In regards to possible future movesets, I think a lot of people get too concerned about what could possibly happen at some undetermined time in the future instead of focusing on what is going on now. If movesets change three months form now, that's three months of coins you could be missing out on by not having another defender sitting high on a gym, or three months of using fewer potions/revives because you have an awesome Blissey-killing Tyranitar.
