Post-Rock Event Golem results

Over the course of the event, I managed to acquire over 800 Geodude candy, and a collection of decent IV Geodudes. After evolving five Golems, leaving me with 238 Geodude candy for powering up, I ended up with:

1) 89% MS/EQ
2) 87% MS/EQ
3) 84% RT/RB
4) 84% MS/SE
5) 80% MS/RB

Now, I was hoping to get a Rock Throw/Stone Edge Golem, but was happy to at least get a Rock Throw/Rock Blast. I wasn't terribly happy with any other moveset. I do have enough candy to evolve another Golem, but my next best one is only 78% IV (14a/7d/14s), and if I do so I won't have enough candy left to max out my RT/RB Golem.

Should I settle for the RT/RB Golem? Should I wait for another Geodude and hope to get lucky? Are any of these Ground/Ground or mixed moveset Golems worth anything other than for prestiging?

As someone who has been using Rock Throw/Stone Edge for about 6 months, Rock Throw/Rock Blast is very comparable.

And that Mud Slap/Rock Blast combo is going to be solid defensively after gym rework, regardless of its type disadvantages.

Mud Slap/Stone Edge is still very, very solid, and I'd hold onto it to see how moveset changes might alter DPS.

Same with Mud Slap/Earthquake.

All in all, if you must invest now, I'd suggest the Rock Throw/Rock Blast, though personally, I'd recommend waiting until the next moveset update to see how things shake out first. I've invested far, far too much dust into mons I thought would be tanks forever, only to see them nerfed into oblivion weeks later (here's looking at you, Ice Shard/Ice Beam Lapras and Bubble/Ice Punch and Bubble/Submission Poliwraths...).

Thanks, this sounds like solid advice. I guess with the wide range of moveset options and enough candy to max out at least one of them, it makes sense to wait for the gym rework. Here's to hoping it comes soon!

The only other thing that would push me to decide right away would be a release of the Legendary Birds. I'd probably max out that RT/RB Golem in that instance.

Took the words out of my mouth. Rock will get double STAB against all three of the birds.

I think those single type movesets are the least at risk for the rebalancing. There's only so much worse they can get when they reshuffle things. Therefore Rock Throw Rock Blast is a good recommendation indeed.

Those defending Bubble/IP or Submission Poliwrath are RIP though, whereas a Bubble/Hydro Pump is still an excellent pokemon today!

Your IS/IB Lapras should still do well against dragonite too.

It's all relative. I'm sure we'll see some moves and usefulness of mons wax and wane a ton after reshuffle. Some powerful fast moves will keep the same overall DPS but change damage per hit, shifting offensiveness vs defensiveness.

For instance, when Vaporeon gets something better than Water Gun, we'll see every gym with one again. I do think Bubble is ripe for a revival. Primary water moves suck on defense now. Only specials are worth anything. This makes any "power" water pokemon worthless on defense, as it is, since none but Vaporeon can really tank hits.

Reshuffle is gonna happen. Eventually. Gyms are way too one-dimensional now for it not to happen.

All the Mud Slap sets are fine, but strictly worse than their counterparts on Rhydon (though RB gives you more dodging flexibility). I think RT/RB is probably good enough to power up depending on what level it's at right now.

I agree with those saying to roll with rt/rb. I have been using rt/se, but might use rt/rb going forward because I don't have to wait for se to charge. Since I already have both of those I have decided just to save my candies and good Geodudes for the next moveset changes.

Generally my thoughts too. Each has its own advantages. Against something really strong, I'd probably prefer Stone Edge. Using special more often, even if move takes short time, seems like it'd be more useful against less-than-tanky defenders.

RT/RB will be an absolute monster in PvP, as it will allow to fire off at least one hit before switching, assuming your opponent is smart enough to switch in a counter.

Right now everybody on this and like forums judges how mons perform with the current gameplay; against STATIC (non-switching) mons in gyms. There is little consideration of the future of PvP, and I believe switching will be a big component, and therefore having a charge move with a low energy cost and a short cooldown is ideal.

I have both RT/RB and RT/SE and there is little if any difference between the two

RT/RB performs not bad, works still fine against Snorlax.
