Alakazam w/ Psycho Cut & Future Sight

He's 100% IV and I found out he is really good against Dragonites, so I was wondering if someone else use Alakazam as an attacker and could share their experiences too! ⏳

He is really squishy. Even with perfect dodging you take quite a beating if he has DT/OR or Hu or just DT period. You need to be really good at dodging too. He's better into things that are weak to Psychic if you can find them or are guaranteed to throw out Psychic moves since you resist them.

That's an important thing yeah, when I dodge with him sometimes I dodge twice by mistake because he is really good at dodging! So it makes things easier.

To put it simply, if you are going to dodge like crazy Alakazam probably isn't top 15 as a counter versus a good Dragon moves Dragonite. Even with all of that dodging he barely skates by. Although not many mons are great counters to Dragonite with Dragon moves ones that will outperform an Alakazam in leftover health with reasonable speed are ones like Lapras, DB/DC Dragonite, Cloyster, Jynx, Tyranitar Cleftable, Gyrados....it's a long list.

As a side note to those that think that a Dragonite is a bad defender just because of his double weakness, he performs on defense possibly the best overall besides Blissey and Snorlax. His best counter (Lapras) cannot make it through two of him in perfect dodging sims....and that is a rare mon. Others top out around 1 1/4 Dragonites taken down at the same level. Some faster (Jynx) with less health etc. By any metrics DT/OR Dragonite is an elite defender as the game stands now. Double weakness and all.

I have one with pc/p and one with pc/fs. I don't find myself using them much because they don't have a type advantage over anything in the meta. They are fine if you want to take out a single pokemon quick, but they are far to squishy if you aren't an expert dodger.

Taking down Blissey's HP fast, leave other attackers enough time to finish up the Blissey.

This is something he can do. It is a time saver and he can resist the Psychic attacks many Blissey often throw.

Also quite good against Pound Blisseys though if you don't dodge all, the damage over time adds up.

There are better mons for Dragonite and like JHVS said, Dragonite still hits very hard.

Dodge bug with DT/O kills my Lapras EVERY fricking time...Usually, this is the 2nd Dnite in a gym though and I can usually clear out 2 Dnites with 1 Lapras if I don't get dodge bugged...(Level 30+ Lapras).

Gyarados with DT/HP also kills me all the time now (with dodge bug) and I need a better counter than Jolteon...

I often use my P/HB Blisssey for the Gyarados in gyms now for this very reason. She can easily truck through 2 1/2 or so of them even if they have HP. Besides her or Snorlax there just really aren't any options much better than Jolt even with his shortcomings.

He is a great generalist attacker. Also, very potion efficient. I don't use mine against dragonites, since I have four cloyster. Alakazam is good for snorlax or blissey. Deals a lot of damage quickly. You need to dodge ALL, but PC is very fast and good for this role.

Unfortunately for me both my Alakazam's don't have great movesets (C/SB & C/FB), so I don't use them much.

But the other day I used my Lv31 Cloyster (FB/A) to take out two Dragonites (LV31&Lv29) in a row with a few HP to spare.

I love using Alakazam to attack. I have the pc/fs moveset. Out of all of the attackers i use, he seems by far the smoothest when attacking. His effortless dodging and quick attacks makes it a joy to use. Yes, he can be knocked quickly if you don't dodge the charge moves, but against certain pokemon such as blissey and snorlax, i don't care that he's not my strongest, he's just so much fun to use and can usually get the job done.
