Movesets are frustrating. Rhydon is my archnemesis, which one is yours?
Rhydon is one of my favorite gen 1 Pokemon (together with Starmie and everybody's favorite Eggman). My local biome is pretty bland, lots of commons with a few water and grass biomes. Rock & Ground types are pretty rare, so it took me quite some time to get my first Rhydon. Of course, it got a bad moveset. No problem, I kept on grinding candies for more evolutions. As of today, I evolved 10 Rhydon with various IVs/CPs, here are the movesets in the order I evolved them:
Rock Smash / Stone Edge
Mud Slap / Megahorn
Mud Slap / Megahorn
Rock Smash / Earthquake
Rock Smash / Earthquake
Mud Slap / Megahorn
Rock Smash / Earthquake
Rock Smash / Earthquake
Rock Smash / Stone Edge
Rock Smash / Earthquake
That's 10!! bad movesets in a row. If I am not mistaken, the chance to get either MS/EQ or MS/SE (which I consider to be the 'good' movesets) is 1/3. The odds of not getting one after 10 evolutions therefor is (2/3)^10=0.017 -> ~1.2%. Yeah, I know, I should be happy that it's Rhydon and not something like Dragonite or Tyranitar (I got none anyways xD), but I am still quite frustrated. I just want one useable Rhydon!
Anyways, which Pokemon is your nemesis? Which one always gets the bad movesets for you?

Not really an evolution fail but for Lapras (all wild):
Ice Shard/Dragon Pulse
Ice Shard/Blizzard (922 CP)
Ice Shard/Ice Beam (0 attack IV)
Water Gun/Blizzard
Water Gun/Ice Beam
Frost Breath/Hydro Pump
The evolutions:
Victreebel
Acid/Sludge B (this is actually good for poison, but I have a muk)
RL/Leaf Blade
Acid/Solar
RL/Leaf BLade
Vileplume:
RL/PB
Acid/Solar
RL/PB
Acid/Solar
RL/PB
Acid/Moonblast
RL/Moonblast
Nidoking:
Basically every moveset (legacy and new) that existed, except Poison Jab/Earthquake
I have incredible luck with drawing good moveset. That being said I was a little sad when I hatched and cracked 5 100% mons over the course of about ten days and came up a little short. Exeggutor's E/SeB performs great. I would have liked a fighting charge move for my Hitmontop. Blastoise has icebeam which I'm not upset about. Hope he gets a little more relevant with the gym shake up though. CP is embarrassingly low even at 4000 dust to boost. I won't hold my breath.
I got my first Rhydon pretty quickly when there was a good nest nearby, and he got Mud Slap/Earthquake. My biome makes them very rare otherwise, so I only got my 2nd one yesterday, with Rock Smash/Megahorn. I'm actually not sure I even care much about the moveset for Rhydons, though, because I never use them to attack. They're just gym squatters for me, so I was just glad to find an 84% one that was already level 30.
The one I am the most annoyed about, however, is Scizor. I've been wanting one with double bug attacks, but all three that I've evolved so far have been Bullet Punch/Iron Head.
10 Gengars evolved. Only 2 got Hex, 8 Sucker Punch. Didn't evolve any before Gen 2 movesets, now I really wish I had.
I was sitting on about 1500 Gastly candy mostly from Halloween, and I kept forgetting to evolve them during lucky egg mass evolves over Pidgeys / Rattatas.
I have 7 Electabuzz, 6 with Low Kick. Not very useful now, but before Jolteon got buffed I wanted a decent one.
I use a Psycho Cut/Focus Blast all the time against Blissey...Better than Future Sight against Snorlax/Blissey and I'd say, funner than MaChamp (I only have a lvl 25 C/CC Champ). That SE damage hurts even if dodged.
Dodging is very easy with Psycho Cut and it's 1 damage only if you dodge zen...
You will take out a good chunk of health and can clean up with another...
I've evolved a ton of Seakings & never get good movesets, but that's mainly because Seaking has no good movesets.
My biggest nemesis when it comes to movesets is probably Niantic, because many of my previous best movesets got nerfed with the moveset changes (e.g. C/P Exeggutor, PC/P Alakazam, and KC/CC Machamp).
I'd say Blissey. Even if she doesn't have "bad" movesets my 3 good Chanseys (91, 96 and 96 IVs) came with Psychic... 2 P/P and 1 ZH/P. Seriously Niantic ?
My 3 Dragonites came with SW (and 2 HB).
4 Tortoise evolved not a single Hydropump.
11 Arcanine and 11 Bulldoze (3 FF, 8 bite).
14 Golduck and not a single Hydropump.
3 Steelix and all 3 got DT/C.
9 Machamp and not a single 1 with double fight moves.
I don't mind if I don't get the ideal moveset but I'm still wondering why I keep getting the same moveset over and over on some mons... Is it really RNG or is there something related to our account or something?
I'd say those Rock Smash/Stone Edge ones are pretty darn good, too, for a couple reasons:
1) Stone edge goes off so fast that it's just a nightmare to dodge. Honestly, I think the most important thing to look for in a Rhydon is stone edge, and don't really care about the quick move too much. I would MUCH rather attack a mud slap/earthquake Rhydon than a rock smash/stone edge one. I can always dodge earthquake, no matter what dodging strategy I'm using, but stone edge is hit or miss, even if I'm dodging all attacks. Anecdotally, I've also found that stone edge is much more likely to hit me with the schroedinger's dodge bug, probably because I'm dodging earthquake with so much extra time to spare.
2) They make a decent backup Blissey attacker. Admittedly, you're probably powering him up to be in a gym, but if he's currently out of one, that moveset is slightly better against Blissey than the one with mud slap. Not the best Blissey attacker, by far, but you're powering him up for defense anyway, and he's somewhere around the top 10, especially against Blisseys with pound and/or hyper beam.
3) Most attackers are probably going to attack into Rhydon with something that resists ground, but which rock smash is neutral against, which evens them out, and arguably makes rock smash even better, since it is ever so slightly faster.
4) Whenever Gen 4 finally comes out, and you evolve your best Rhydon into Rhyperior, your old moveset won't matter anymore.
