New update fixed biomes?

So today my brother and I went on our normal walk but this time we saw a wild larvitar on sightings (never popped) and that should not be so insane because we live in a desert biome that spawns: Fire, Ground, Rock, Poison, and Bug types but larvitar never spawned here but the first walk after the new update we see one I dont think that is a coincidence so have any biome fixes happened for you?

I live in a similar biome to you. I do see the occasional one on my travels - even left the house @11pm for one a couple of nights ago.
I won't say they are common, but I have been lucky enough to see a few.

I am just going to assume you got lucky, and that they were always around just in such small numbers that you haven't had the luck before now.
Congrats!
...may you find many more.

The thing is that I live in nevada so of course right next to California and I watch a few youtubers that are in California and they see them like crazy specifically trainer tips is the first to come to my head and I see the same pokemon as him other than larvitar untill now that is why I posted this.

I have noticed some "changes" in abundance of some pokemon over the last few days. Drowzee was extremely common in Gen 1 and became almost absent with Gen 2 launch. After the grass event it is spawning very frequently again. I have seen subtle changes in the spawn patterns for other species.
Another curiousity is that a nest reported as teddy bear in TSR was marked as rhyhorn nest. The player who reported it commented that it changed to rhyhorn after the grass event. I went to investigate and it was still a teddy bear nest. But it's true that rhyhorn is spawning near one of the pokestops of that tiny nest (it's a small garden with 2 stops). It looks as a new frequent spawn spot introduced in between migrations.
So, not sure that something was changed but I see subtle changes...

I don't doubt there may have been changes. That would be a good thing too. I do doubt it has anything to do with the update though since such things are done by the server and not your phone.
