Dragonite DT/Outrage: Attacker or Defender?

So I have a level 31; 3071 CP Dragonite 86.7% IV with DT/Outrage. For a while now, I've mostly been using him to place high in gyms. He'd stay in gyms for days on in. But today he was out of a gym and I used him to attack 2 different Blissey's in two different gyms. One Blissey had ZH/DG 2900 CP and the other one was 2500 CP ZH/Hperbeam. He took both of them out no problem. There were 20 seconds to spare. (For whatever reason, I had a harder time against the Hyperbeam one)

Anyways, it got me thinking...Do I put it in a gym knowing it's going to be placed high and get me coins daily or do I keep him as an attacker. I was very surprised how well he did. Usually I gotta attack Blissey with multiple attackers. Using this Dragonite definitely saves me on potions and revives.

What do you say board? How do you use your high CP Dragonite?

The below picture is the aftermath of vs-ing the 2nd Blissey with Hyperbeam.

im having a similar dilemma except im not as fortunate as you, i got hyper beam instead of outrage. But hes still an amazing attacker that i enjoy using. The problem is hes 1 of my 2 only 3k+ pokemon and i need him in gyms to avoid being near the bottom.

It depends on what else you got on your roster i guess.

It took me 3 Dragonite evolutions to get this bad boy. The other two were Steel Wing/Hyperbeam. Took me MONTHS for these evolutions. I was super lucky with the 10 KM egg Dratini hatches.

Funny how sites rank hb as a good defensive move eh? Anyways, I have asked myself that question too. I keep it as an attacker because the reality is that it is the best attacker in the game in terms of DPS and it shows. I'm already in 15 gyms, I don't need another defender. That being said, 2500-2600 cp will get me in a gym.

It really depends on your gym scene I'm in 21 gyms by me you need 2900 which puts you at the bottom. I have DT/O 3320 sitting at top and my other DT/O left at level 30 for attack.

Have you thought about placing a personal cap on yourself of 15 gyms?
The game will survive if players can play. If they get locked out of gyms it is no fun and they'll quit.
I cap myself at 15, then when I get below 10 I'll fight it back up to between 12-15.

My whole town is yellow we have a group so we hold down all the gyms in my area there are about 7-8 that I don't get in for that same reason you mentioned

I think that can really depend on your team, area, type of pokemon you are putting in there, and agenda.

How do your other attackers look? If you've got a squad of mons that cover a broad range of typings, and if you need the gym collect, go for it

I got plenty of attackers. I can pretty much take down any Pokemon. I would just have to use more than one Pokemon if I am going to defeat a Blissey. I got a ton of Pokemon to attack Snorlax. He isn't a issue anymore. So when I come across a tower of Blissey it's 2 Pokemon per Blissey. Then the revives and potions. It adds up. I noticed today how much easier life is with this Dragonite.

Well then it's really just if you are sacrificing coins by holding him out or using him on O. I like attacking gyms with my best mons. I never place those Dragons or Tyranitars that can target Blisseys effectively.

Nite is THE attackers of the game, except for ice types he wrecks everyfuckinone, there are a lot of other Pokemon that can be high placed in gyms, my Nite is pretty much like yours and i never keep him caged, never regrets.

My best Dragonite is a 98% with DT/OR and 3300cp. I will no longer consider putting him in a gym because he is SO good at attack.

I agree with the other replies here. Use him on offense. I have a DT/O one myself that melts Blissey and Snorlax in no time.

I know dt/outrage is supposed to be best defensive moveset but from my limited experience it is extremely easy to "dodge all" and I'm not a very good dodger. Perhaps even easier than hb. Some people can probably do it with their eyes closed because there seems to be a definite rhythm to it. I'd be curious if everything thinks the same way. On the other hand dragon tail/hydro pump on a gyrados seems to be more tricky.

I just got a dragon tail/outrage that I powered up for offense but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Looking forward to it. Sounds like fun!
