I try to be different with gym mons than the usual that we always see for diversity especially with mons i like. So i have a muk with 89% IV, CP1518 and moveset infestation/gunk shot, should i power him up to be used as a defender? I know poison jab is probably the better quick move but this is still rated as an A for defending. Also grimers are pretty rare to me with only 19 caught/hatched and this was the first grimer i got over 80+ IV

Yes especially because he is weak to psychic attackers and bug is SE towards PSY mons so yes that is why I like my lick/Gunk shot(pre gen 2) one.

I would. Gunk shot is a harder move to dodge, and infestation is a fine defensive move. Most people will attack Muk with a psychic pokemon, due to his weakness and how hard the psychic moves hit. Infestation will be SE against those pokemon and double effective against Eggy.

Yeah its his best charge move for sure so i dont wanna have to keep trying for a better one and not roll gunk shot and waste candies lol

Not mentioned yet:

One plus is that infestation, like poison jab, continues to hit grass types for super effective. The downside is that it doesn't get STAB and is resisted by fairy where as poison jab gets DTAB and hits fairy hard.

Another thing is that at least you didn't get dark pulse!

Lastly, if you were to re-roll, I personally would be content with PJ/Sludge Wave

Dark Pulse is a great moveset. I prestige against my Muk all the time. The bastard took out both my Alakazam and my Eggy with a dark pulse.

My advice to you is to dump your Muk. He's bad.

Muk is actually pretty strong cp aside so when the gym rework hits it may be one of the best.

Based on what standard? Don't speak if you haven't battled one.
