Where are all these phantom players??

I play very discreetly (you can see me flinging my finger when catching mon, button mashing at a gym location etc, it's obvious i'm playing pokemon go) but either there are not a lot of trainers left out there or there is something really sinister going on out there (namely spoofing), because I have yet to even come across a fellow trainer (or opposing team trainer), especially at gyms.

I still trust my local community and I don't think spoofing is a problem because I have been able to hold gyms. However, it just so happens that every time I fight a gym, no one is around, and when I leave, someone, just at that moment, decides to prestige once I am gone and dumped my own mon in. I never gone back to investigate though.

Any ideas? Do you play discretely yourself? Or are you a ninja player?

I'm obvious where I try to defend my own teams meager gyms we cannot hold but I'm a ninja on sooofer turf. There is no reason to be otherwise there.

I think I act normally, as others do for texting. I talk to quite a few stragers that I intersect with, but every time is me approaching the other, never viceversa. I guess a lot of players are very shy.

I always play out in the open, as near the gym as I can get. And yes I often have experienced phantom players when there seems to be nobody else around. Often I can't be 100% certain, someone could be hiding in a bush or something. But I have met other trainers at the gym and am always friendly to them, even if they are on different teams.

They're cheeters.

That depends. In the big "poke parks" in the city, where many people play the game, I'm not discreet at all, even when attacking the gyms that turn over very frequently.

However, in the local small town I try to be discreet, especially when attacking or prestiging a gym. I know all the hidden places where I can access the gym, and may act like I'm texting if someone notices, but unfortunately others may wonder if I cheat. But the reason I try to be discreet is my 12-year-old son was once threatened by a "team member" who accused him of sniping a spot (my son was prestiging the gym and was not aware that anyone else did).

So please don't assume all "invisible" players are cheaters.

I think you have to convince yourself that there are spoofers or bots around. It could be that the spoofers at the gym are mostly your own team and so they prestige it up once you put in your mon.
