Most frustrating Level 10 gym composition?
Although it doesn't really matter now given how easy it is to take down gyms I'm trying to think of the best gym composition to frustrate potential attackers.
Now I understand most of you will probably answer 10 Snorlax or 10 Lapras Gyms, but in reality they don't spawn that often. Assume Snorlax/Lapras is capped to 2. How would you construct your 'perfect defense' gym with your team?
My pick would be:
Slowbro X2 with confusion/psyhic (forces you to use a grass, which is not effective for anything below)
Arcanine X1 (Deters Lapras and potentially encourages Vaporeon use which is not effective for anything below)
Gyarados X1 (Will force the AI to consider an electric such as Raichu/Magneton (especially if dragonite is also inside the gym composision) when selecting your team of 6, but can be swapped out. Still a dragonite/arcanine deterrent due to dragon/water moves)
Lapras X2 with Ice Shard/Dragon Pulse (Best Moveset against Arcanine)
Dragonite X2 with Steel Wing/Dragon Claw (for less predictability)
Snorlax X2 with Zen Headbutt and Body Slam

def no gyarados, do weak on defense.
I would say. Wigglytuff as 1st Pokemon to deter below lvl25 player who thinks 1900cp is easy to kill. Then as many snorlax and Lapras as possible. If not enough of those, slowbrow, wiggly, clefable, poliwrath.
For me, the main thing is to counter dragonite. Otherwise, too easy to destroy any gym with 2 dragonite +4 random others Mons.
I would have ice beam on Slowbro instead of psychic. Ice beam really messes up his best counter...Exeggutor.
Poliwrath with bubble and ice punch over your Gyarados.
A Clefable with zen headbutt/psychic would be a good addition, maybe instead of one of those Slowbros.
Replace dragon pulse on Lapras to ice beam. I use Machamp against Lapras. He can take 3 dragon pulses.
Give one of those Snorlax earthquake. A common counter to Snorlax is fire pokemon. earthquake will be se against those pokemon. Body slam is still a better attack, but I think switching it up is best, for if nothing more than throwing off their dodging.
In my little town, there are 5 gyms located pretty close to one another, and the dominant team has held them for months. (The dominant team is Mystic, because of course it is.)
All 5 of the gyms are level 10, and as far as I can tell the players watch them constantly. If you ever start to attack one of them, members of Team Mystic (always at least 2 members, sometimes more) will show up within 15 minutes to work against you, training it up while you try to lower it.
But there IS a sixth gym a little south of town, far enough out that the gym-holders can't see it from their homes, and that's the one that held all of their toughest Pokemon (which, I assume, was strategic on their part).
A few nights ago I decided to solo this gym, and I succeeded -- with time and potions you always will -- but christ! it was a chore!
Three Snorlax - 2 Body Slam, 1 Earthquake
Five Exeggutors - 3 Confusion/Psychic, 1 Zen Headbutt/Psychic, 1 Confusion/Solar Beam
2 Vaporeon - 1 Aqua Tail, 1 Hydro Pump
The CPs started at 2300+ and went up to 2600+ (the Solar Beam Exeggutor, who was actually the easiest of the lot).
Took me close to an hour and a half.
Ive taken down many level 10's and a gyarados definitely screws me up. I typically try to take out 2-3 pokemon per but the combination of Snoralax and gyarados make it very difficult to run through from top to bottom. I always feel like im potion inefficient with the raichu vs my other pokemon assassin team and I usually have to allocate one pokemon per large Snoralax.
