Any niche uses for a Golem?

I finally added Golem to my Pokedex (just Muk, Charizard and Kabutops to go for the UK set).

Lv 21 87% IVs, okay moveset - Rock Throw & Earthquake, but his type disadvantages obviously rule him out as a defender.

If he had a rock charge move I can see him being good against Dragonite, and probably okay as is, but I'm struggling to think of other Pokemon's he'll be decent against, and wary of investing too much dust in him.

Any obvious candidates for using him as an attacker against? I won't max him up but am considering upping him a bit.

I use mine against Arcanine at times or to prestige against high CP arcanine...Works fine for me. I don't power mine up...

I was using it as a counter to Arcanine when I had just one Vapereon, and it works prettey well!

He's really only going to be good against relevant fire types (Arcanine, Flareon, Charizard) and Electrics (Jolteon, Raichu, Electabuzz). Rock attacks are double super effective against Charizard though (!) However, given how poor choices all of these are at defending , and how rare Charizard is, you'll almost never get to use Golem.

There isn't really a niche use of Golem even with a rock/rock moveset, it's really just a worse version of Vaporeon. Against other mons that have rock weakness (Gyarados, Lapras, Dragonite), they will either double/single super effective you back with water, ice and steel attacks anyway, and there are sadly better counters for each of these 3 pokemon.

But by all means use it against fire/electric types when you see them, it's a great choice.

I use him as an attacker quite a bit. I didn't invest, I caught a very high cp/mid iv geodude. I don't see vaporeons in gyms anymore so just look out for Exeggutor. Earthquake+stab hits pretty damn hard.

It's definitely not the best but it's better than I expected and fun to use. I've yet to use it against muk but I suspect it would be great and soon more and more people will have muk.

Against Charizard is where Golem with Rock Throw + Stone Edge really shines. Rock is doubly effective and then you get STAB too. Then there is also that Golem gets reduced damage from Fire and Flying. Golem does well against Dragonite too, Rock is super effective against Flying but you just have to watch out for Dragonites with Steel Wing.

Thanks (and to all). Electrics are rare in Gyms but Arcanine & Flareon are common round here - I'll give him the odd outing before deciding on whether to power up. It's fun to use a variety of attackers rather than just relying on the same handful.

I powered a 96% golem rock/rock to lvl30. I used it sometimes against dragonite against who he does fine but not great. Same for Lapras. I regret the dust invested.

If I were you I would wait high cp geodude and wait for a ground/ground or rock/rock moveset. Rock/ground is the worst.

But even a perfect golem won't be very useful. Fun animation when attacking though
