McDonalds paid for the event.

If a sponsor pays for an event for their country too they would have one also.

Until then, yes, cheap ass peasants will get nothing.

That was paid for too. It would be nice if folks paid for events in places that aren't Japan I guess.

How much would it cost for a Dragonite event in my backyard?

I think there actually was some discussion early on about localized events available through Niantic. Like birthday parties and such. I have no idea about the cost but when someone in Wisconsin does by one I'll post "the other 49 states got screwed again, Are you going to Susie's 7th birthday party?" in a thread here for sure ;)

That event was going to be paid for by the government but Ninatic did it for free. I guess they were doing a proof of concept to show other companies that people will travel just to catch an imaginary creature.

It worked too. TrainerTips went to Japan, now hes in Austraulia, just for a damn Kengaskan and hes on his way to Mr. Mime as I type this.

That's actually a genius PR move in their attempt to push a POC by Niantic. I imagine it's what they used to sell the sponsors on.

I think they forgave the payment due to a natural disaster as a gift, right?

Yes, it was due to the earthquake that devastated that area. They increased the Lapris spawns in that area to bring in tourism.

Its working hella crazy. Right now they have

  • Starbucks (Pokestops)
  • Boost (Pokestops)
  • Sprint (Pokestops)
    now McDonalds is joining in.

Not surprised really its almost like the main games and how japan spoils their players with event pokemon that are never are released outside of japan like shiny diancie

Because it's profitable. If Starbucks or whomever thought they would see a profit by paying for an event in country X they would.

I'm starting to think it's part of Japanese business mindset. I've started to play Pokemon Duel recently, which is primarily Japanese, and damn they're catering to players. They apologize for scheduled server maintenance and give bonuses for that. Then they extend maintenance and apologize for that too, with more bonuses.

Other than that, Pokemon franchise seems infinitely more important for Japan than for any other country.
