Alakazam help

Hey guys so I have tried to get an alakazam moveset that's good ever since this game came out.

I have 4 total all with confusion/shadow ball except for one that I just evolved and finally got PSYCHO CUT But it came with shadow ball. I wanted future sight obviously but should I just power this guy up? His iv is good 93% and I feel like this is taking for ever to get the right moveset for him. shadow ball on my gengar does a ton of damage. I just know many ppl prefer future sight I just don't think I can ignore this guy and grind for another 125 candies/good iv for the 5th time lol any advice would be helpful with this moveset I got now PC/shadow ball

Thank you

Well, a few weeks ago l got a 100% Alakazam with PC/FS and tbh I didn't know that I would have to dodge so much, his hp is incredibly low so I would regret powering up an Alakazam without the best moveset tbh.

Alakazam is one of the best attackers in the game. Although Shadow Ball is not ideal as it won't benefit from STAB, Psycho Cut hits really fast and will help you charge up Shadow Ball quickly, allowing you to unleash more charge moves.

At 93% IV, I would definitely power him up to use as an attacker.

It just sucks because I know that futureS is better it's just so hard farming for abra..n the chance of me getting that magic moveset is very slim ugh I'm so confused on what to do

Shadow Ball is basically useless, do you have any with Focus Blast? Its a much better non-stab move. Nearly as good as Future Sight (because SE against many pokemon)

I use a Conf/Psychic one from pre-Gen 2. Trying to get a psycho future sight or psycho focus blast now.

I have both; and I prefer future sight alllllot more for three reasons:

  1. Psycho cut generates energy extremely fast, requiring little time to generate the energy necessary to fire it off, making the fact that shadow ball requires half as much energy less desirable of an option.
  2. It requires 0.3s less to fire off a future sight, making him less vulnerable. This reason isn't as significant, except for the fact that...:
  3. FS gets stab and does 120 * stab (1.25) = 150, where as shadow ball does 100.

I got PC/SB on my second evolution and powered it up. Just recently I got PC/FS on my sixth evolution, and I mmmuuuucccchhh prefer that over the PC/SB. As an overall Pokémon, PC/SB still performs well, but powering it up will require candies that could be used to roll on another.

If you really like alakazam, like I did, it may be worth it because it's fun. It's not nearly as dps-efficient, and I feel like PC/FB would be just as if not more preferable due to the fact the PC charges energy very fast. Let me know if you have any questions :)

Thank you!! This is exactly the information I was looking for. After reading what you say I will save and hope. I'll just use him as a prestiger for now it sucks because I know this is gonna take forever thanks again for the feedback

TL;DR: PC/SB may have merit when PvP is released

No problem! I was also thinking about the possible advantages that PC/SB has over PC/FS and the first thing that came to mind was typing; when PvP is introduced, PC/SB will be advantageous in possible alakazam v alakazam match-ups, as well as against other psychic types.

Unfortunately ghost only covers super effective damage against ghost and psychic types, and the only relevant ghost type at the moment is gengar, who also gets hit hard by FS.

If my predictions and assumptions of PvP hold true, PC/SB may work as a wild card moveset that could throw opposing players off their game. E.g., a player sees your alakazam and puts in slowbro or exeggutor, only to discover what you're running hits hard. The effectiveness of it may be amplified if the super effective multiplier is eventually raised, similar to the ratio between stab:super effective in the main series (if that makes sense). As well, there are some solid ghost types in future generations that won't like this moveset!

Makes sense thank you for all the feedback. What does ghost attacks hit hard with? Just ghost Pokémon?

Just seeing this now, I was doing yard work for the parental units. And no problem, I am glad to help ^^

Ghost attacks hit super effective against 2 types: ghost and psychic
