How about trainer duels and you wager your stardust?

Pokemon is not poker... I am not playing pokemon to bet stardust or something else.

Seems it will be abused, esp with adults cheating kids...

Or people running a second account as a bot, then using this system to transfer the stardust to another account. Gain the stardust without the risk of getting the account banned for botting.
