Bullet Seed Exeggutor

The charts and info in dondon151's "Besting the Big 7..." post are quite helpful, but I want to point out what I think is the most notable shortcoming of the analysis - Bullet Seed/Solar Beam Exeggutor is not included. The analysis used the best attacking moveset for each Pokemon, which is sufficient in most situations, but in the case of Exeggutor I think there is ample reason to looking beyond the ideal Psychic+Grass movesets to Bullet Seed/Solar Beam. BS/SoB is rated "B", but its Grass+Grass typing has salient advantages in the Rhydon and Vaporeon matchups. In fact, I think BS/SoB Exeggutor has the fastest KO time against both Rhydon and Vaporeon out of any presently available Pokemon. Maybe I am mistaken, but I think this is worth mentioning.

I have a couple Bullet Seed Eggs and I still haven't gotten 100% comfortable with them and their attack. For some reason just seems odd and "bulky" slow for some reason.

Maybe just months and months of using ZH and C Eggs with Solar beam that BS seems odd.

Maybe I should use them more but I almost always use Vaps vs Rhydons. Find it easier to dodge using WG than bulky BS.

Agreed. I won't use it. Actually, I won't use ZH or EX either. I hate the 1.1 animation time. It's Confusion or bust for me.

Well, what are the times of bullet seed compared to zh/es or confusion? Even after applying weaknesses the psychic attacks still do more damage against Vaporeon, and possibly even Rhydon, with the double weakness. The question would be does the EPS of bs make up for the loss of damage? Run some simulations, let us know.

My only exeggutor has Bullet Seed/Solar Beam and it ROCKS against Vaporeons and Rhydons. Of course, I can't compare it to Psychic/SB as I don't have that.

My Exeggutor is by far my most used attacker as Vaporeon is the #1 common defender in my meta (followed by Gyarados and Rhydon with Blissey, Dragonite and Snorlax lagging somewhat behind).

I want to cast Psychic as my quick attack ;)

It has been looked at. Exegg's psychic moves are still better than Bullet Seed for things like Vaporeon with a single weakness to Grass, and only marginally worse against things like Rhydon with a double weakness to grass.

I can second this from battle experience. The reason ES/SoB is better is because unless there are multiple Rhydons back to back, and especially when Snorlax or Blissey is adjacent, the benefit of having ES for your next (non-Rhydon) battle is significant. FWIW, when you do have back-to-back Rhydons, I actually find VW/SoB Venusaur to be even faster than BS/SoB Eggy.

I think everyone is confused what BS eggy does.

BS is not for damage output, it is for building the charged attack, being super effective is just icing on the cake. My BS/SB eggy spams Solarbeam about every 5 seconds when I attack.

But my eggy is level 30 so it may differ durability against multiple mons

I'm not confused at all. I have one I use every now and then. But for survivability and dodging I prefer a non-BS quick attack.

I find it is difficult to consistently get in 2 BS's before I have to dodge an incoming attack. With confusion I know I'm only getting in 1 usually but it hits like a truck.

Nope...I am not confused.

Bullett Seed takes 7.7 seconds to fill the charge bar completely, doing 56 damage....using 7 hits

Extrasensory takes only 8.8 seconds to fill the charge bar comlpetely, doing 96 damage....using 8 hits
That is a difference of 40 damage, in 1.1 seconds....and a single hit

Double effective only means that Bullett Seed catches up, it in no way makes it superior.

When BS does double super effective, then it brings in inline with the psychic quick moves...at no point is it superior.

BS and ES both have a CD of 1.1 but the damage and energy are different. Against Rhydon BS does 14.51(1.56x9.09) DPS and ES 13.64 DPS and the two moves have an EPS of 12.73 vs 10.91 respectively. The EPS of BS is 17% greater than ES. Against Vapes the DPS of BS is 11.36(9.09x1.25) so in this situation you will lose 17% in damage for a 17% gain in EPS. Clearly against Rhydon BS is vastly superior option but against vapes the difference is gonna be similar.

With 2x SE all that does is make them comparable.

These figures don't calculate the energy gain from damage taken, but in this instance it will be the same for both anyway.

Once you take into account lost energy from using a quick move while the charge bar is full, then any advantage that BS may have, is lost very quickly to superior damage from Es.

I see no reason to choose to power up a moveset that is only comparable for 1 particular defender when the same mon with a different moveset has many defedender it can face. That is not an efficient use of candy /stardust.
Sure, if you roll a BS from a lvl30 egg, then use it - but investing in one is not efficient in any way.
