I know this has been asked a lot but each case may be different because every player has their own preferences and their own "stage" on the game.

I wanted advice on what mon make my buddy. At this point I am half level 36, I have walking my only wild Larvitar since day 2 of gen2 release, he is now at almost 400km and after all that walking and 4 good luck hatches I am at 240 candies.

The problem is that the highest iv Larvitar I hatched was 87% and I don't want to evolve any top tier mon below 90%, I only made the exception with a 89% Snorlax and just because I haven't seen/hatched a lot of them. So right now my doubt is, continue to buddy with Larvitar until I find a better iv one (to max him to my level once evolved I would need around 300 candies, 124 to evolve + 182 to power up), switch to Snorlax (the only "good" one I have left is an 86% with L/BS but I only have 75 candies), or switch to Chansey/Blissey, have a 96% Chansey but "only" 120 candies.

Note that I say "only" because they are not enough to get any of them to a "usable" level, on my area gym bottom mon is around 2700-2800CP and that is the main reason I don't know what to do at this point...I have already 1 maxed out Blissey and 1 maxed out Snorlax, so they will be my second of each.

Any advice is very welcome ;)

Are you trying for an offensive or defensive Tyranitar? 89% IV is fine imo. He will still easily top that CP number for defense and for offense it matters little; his base stats are huge.

If it's to be a crapy defender, then at least be the highest one in your area. wait for better iv. I also intend to evolve only 93% tyra for that reason( but I don't bother to walk it yet). 4/6 crap attack moves, a lot worse than in dragonite case.
I would evolve 2nd blissey, take it at lvl 30 with those candies, use it for 2nd bottom place in gyms.
Walk the snorlax :).

Unless your gyms have 6 Tyranitars in each one it won't matter he will still have a higher CP than almost all of the Dnites and everything else in the gyms 100% or not.

An 89% Larvitar can have a higher CP than a 100% Dragonite.

I get you. I don't disagree with waiting but an unevolved one earns nothing. So since he is looking for a defender I'm only advising him it's likely that one will do the job on almost all gym scenes. I evolved 4 that I lm never powering up because they have defensive sets.

Plus if he draws an offensive moveset he can carry on to Chansey with no worries. If he gets a good defensive set he can do the same. If he gets fire blast I guess the question is still there.

I want him for offense, but if a gym nearby becomes too high on CP I would probably put him anyways.

Also I am trying to focus on the future, that's why I normally only evolve and power up the top tier mon that are above 90%, looking after pvp and gym rebalance.

His base stats are so high it's hard to imagine how those changes would change his effectiveness. They could though. Hard for me to advise against unknown future changes. Still I cannot imagine what change would make an 89% Tyranitar worthless and a 93% one that much better. More likely they are both shit in those scenarios.

I agree but I have a pretty solid team of both attackers and defenders, I am not in a hurry and even if I evolve the 89% one I don't have enough candies to take him to the max after the evolution, that is the main reason I was walking him until this point.

I will probably switch to Chansey to get another big Blissey as a defender when I get the next Larvitar candy.

I just evolved my Lavitar this event and he was 93%. It was worth it. Gave me a legit Blissey attacker I was lacking. Still a long way to go to power him up but I keep him as my buddy and only use him on offense.

I would walk Chansey. I am only level 31, and have about 3 Chansey with IV’s all lower than 74, but consistently walk Chansey for candy because A.) Chansey are extremely rare near me (only seen one in the wild ever) B.) Chansey evolves into the best defender in the game and C.) If they rework gyms and CP isn’t the determining factor, T-rex and Gyro are going to get the gym skimmer boot, and Blissey will still be a beast regardless of CP. Snorlax is kinda the same, he will always be a good defender, so he would be my second choice. FWIW, if the gym mechanics switch to a “1 type of mon per gym” function, then Blissey would be rarer than T-rex anyway (near me anyway even though they are essentially the same biome) and you would be able to use her more.

Yeah, probably Blissey is the better choice if looking after forward gym rebalance, I hope she will still be among the top defenders.

I don't have a Trex yet, but I have a 93% Larvitar that I hatched recently. I already have a 2868 CP Blissey.

However, my buddy is a Chansey that I have walked for 313 km and is my long term project.

So if I preach what I practice, you should buddy with the Chansey.

Do you have a Count/DP Machamp? I don't even have one Larvitar; the only that I saw in the wild, ran away. :(
