Just how bad is earthquake? I'm having a very hard time choosing a snorlax to upgrade. On defense it even says lick/slam is better than Zen/EQ.

I have a few to choose from, but my highest IV by far has EQ. what's your opinion on it? And are any of the big generation 2 weak to it?

Your 84% Lick/HB 2010cp is great to spend in, its A for attack and B for defense (hybrid moveset), very usefull in high CP and hes 2k already. The ZH/HB 2402cp one is already great for defense although his bad IV, with only 3 power ups he reach 2500+ and can stay at the top/middle of gyms while you dont hatch a better defensive one. The 1200cp 91iv with EQ its not bad, but you will spend too many candies to max out and no stab damage (Moveset>IV). So if you have candies enough, my strategy would be that power up 3 times the 2402cp to reach 2500+ (even with his bad IV, will be a monster and stay above vaporeons and some exeggutors on gyms) and max out the 2010cp/84%IV Lick/HB one which is usual for attack and defense. Offensive Snorlaxes are amazing, Lick hits very very quickly.

Thanks for response. I've got plenty of candy thanks to hatches. It's just really hard to say no to a 90+ snorlax, but I know I probably shouldn't upgrade it. I don't think the 2402 will hit 2500 at my level, I caught it near maxed out and powered it once just to hit 2400 lol.
I'll probably do the next best thing and upgrade the 1700 67iv. I think it may hit 2600.

Definitely doing the 84 lick HB! I just don't know how high to take it.

I have the same Snorlax as you and I powered it because it had the highest ivs (90+). The only thing bad about Earthquake is that theres no STAB. Earthquake however is super effective against fire and many people would use Arcanine to attack. I feel Zen Headbutt/Hyper beam is only a little better than Earthquake. The only thing that matters in gyms is CP so higher ivs with Earthquake can be higher up in the gym than a lower iv hyperbeam one. Any pokemon will get taken down regardless so I would just power up that Earthquake if it has good ivs. Remember a snorlax is a snorlax.

I actually think Earthquake > Hyperbeam in the Real World.

Yes, its the other way in theory dps, but hyperbeam is perhaps the single easiest charge move to dodge in my opinion.

EQ doesn't give as much opening animation.

So for defense, EQ > Hyper
completely reversed for offense.

True, but for me I always successfully dodge Earthquake and Hyper beam will do more dmg to me. However, if a person isnt really good at dodging then Earthquake is way better with its trickier animation.

Good luck with that and thank you for doing a lot less damage to anyone who can play the game.

Earthquake is pretty bad, once you've fought enough snorlaxes with it, it's pretty easy to dodge just off the animation itself. Hyper Beam is so slow you can even sneak in one more quick attack after it's announced if you are brave. Zen and Body Slam is a far superior moveset than the rest imo, and Zen and anything would be next, followed by Lick and Body Slam. Even people who frequently battle gyms don't dodge quick moves at all due to the overall time it takes, which makes Zen so much better. All that said, I've only got 2 Snorlaxes I've been powering up L/H and Z/E, neither of which are ideal, but Snorlaxes are Snorlaxes, and the time it takes to beat them is a nuiscance no matter what moveset they have.

Thanks for the reply. Would you personally give up 20 iv for HB over EQ?

HB or EQ doesn't really matter to me, my Snorlaxes are always the first thing I stick in a gym if they are out. I'd give up 20 IV for one with ZH over one with Lick. If they both have Lick they relatively the same.
