hello players. im a level 35 player that was on 34 then this event began and was able to level up quickly with lucky eggs and am slightly over 2/3 of the way to leveling up to 36. however, after that with this event over it seems like a long shot to level up past that anytime soon.

i know there are a ton of level 39-40 players on here. my question is whats your secret? i mean i dont hunt 10 hours a day but what are some strategies i can use to get to that prestigious level 40?

Catch tons and tons and tons of pidgeys. Use lucky egg. Spend 2 hours evolving 1000 candy worth of pidgeys. Enjoy.

How much XP does that net you?

If sticking to the 1000/11 rule you'd get 90 evolves. That's only enough for 1 lucky egg and a half. I think you will need 240 evolves to optimise 2 hours lucky egg. So that is 2640 candy (2641 actually for the last one).

That does give you 60000 per lucky egg then you'll multiply that by 4 lucky eggs to get 240,000 exp. Significant but still rather underwhelming in the scheme of level 35-level 40 levelling lol

Once I reached level 30 I stopped the pidgey madness.
Lucky egg mass evolves are boring,
catching pidgeys is frustrating because they escape too often.
I don't evolve for XP, I only evolve if I want the evolved mon.
I transfer mons and am building up candy collections for every mon.

I am level 36 and a half, I don't live in a big city but I play everyday at least one hour, two on weekends, I play mainly on my way to work so I don't think I am a "hardcore" player, I catch all pidgey, rattata, weedle, caterpie and similars and only do mass evolve sessions when I am close to level up or close to max my storage.

I know that everyone has their own goals but personally I won't even bother to catch more 12 candy mon when I see I am close to level 38, at level 38 you can give the last powerup to your mon so why bother to get more xp after it? There is literally 0 difference at this point between a level 38 and a level 40 player, so my advice is take it slowly and enjoy, just catch the 12 candy mon instead of things like murkrow but a part from that don't worry about xp, it is just a matter of time you will get there, enjoy the trip, Niantic is not the kind of company that will release a lot of updates every year so you will have more than enough time to get there ;)

Not all, but a good portion, of those Trainers that are level 39 or 40 are cheaters. Send a bot out to catch for you 24 hours a day, or spoof your GPS, and you will level up quickly.... but you aren't allowed to have any self-respect if you cheat.

correct me if im wrong but at level 38 it is not the last time u can power up a mon. u can still power up at level 39 a half a level (very small marign but still).

Trainer lv 37 = pokémon lv 38.5
Trainer lv 38 = pokémon capped at lv 39
Trainer lv 39 and 40 = pokémon capped at lv 39

So there no reason to lv up beyond lv 38.

People at lvl 40 tend to avoid gyms (low exp vs time involved) and tend to sit at many many lured Pokestops and catch non-stop under lucky eggs...They do this daily with friends I'd guess.

I think someone in Singapore lures up 11 stops in a spot with friends and hang out, eat, chat and catch non-stop for 8+ hours and he has over 100 million XP and now, I'm sure more. I don't think they bother to walk/hatch eggs since catching is less tiring and faster probably...Just focus on Lucky eggs and lures (which gives more common candies to do evolve parties).

With 11 stops, you will never run out of Pokeballs.

Level 38 gets you to the level cap of 39 for Pokemon. No need to go beyond unless you want to, leveling past 30 is only for gym placement capability in certain areas anyway.

Pokemon IV and moves are far superior to level, that's all I focus on. Level grinding is somewhat pointless, resource grinding is life.

Leveling is a by product of stardust collection.

I know your pain. Here, most prominent players are 33~36 and now I’m stuck on lv 30. I dont have much free time, so I play, like, 4 or 5 hours a week. But I don’t think there is much beyond evolving pidgeys, spending real money on lucky eggs and playing several hours per day.

A great way to get XP quickly is to get catch the mon on a "great" first throw.
getting 200+ XP per mon adds up fast.
I don't bother with mons that escape all the time, so I'll pass up pidgey, weedle and caterpie, etc.

I am at Lvl 34 and just over half. I catch everything and make sure I always have incubators for eggs. I only walk the 2Ks in the orange one. I am normally in 5 - 10 gyms depending on how much time I have to play. I wish there was a cap on how many gyms a player coulb be in past 10 but said player would probably just open another account. Gym play is becoming ridiculous. You need to be near Lvl 30 just to have a chance.
