Which Golem?
Geodudes are not common in my town so I still don't have a Golem. However, with the nest migration, a park a few kilometers from where I work just turned into a Geodude nest, so I went there today for an hour or so and now have 159 Geodude candy, so I guess it's Golem time. Basically I have these candidates:
Candidate #1:
A level 20, 87% IV Graveller.
Good points: Nice IV. Already evolved to Graveller.
Bad points: Costly to power up.
Candidate #2:
A level 29, 59% Geodude.
Good points: High level. No need to power up. Less annoying if crap moveset.
Bad points: Pretty bad IV.
Candidate #3:
A level 27, 73% IV Geodude.
Good points: The compromise candidate. Fairly high level. Not too terrible IV's.
Bad points: A bit of a meh candidate.
What do you think? Is Golem even someone you would want to power up to level 30 in the current meta?

I just used the CP calculator and was somewhat surprised at the results. At level 30 the cp of these would be:
Candidate 1: 2459
Candidate 2: 2374 (without power up its 2295)
Candidate 3: from 2410-2413 depending on match
I just have to wonder if 85cp difference is worth the cost here. Seems like a very slight gain. But of course, we are purists here, that's part of the fun! :-)
I agree with KESAthans... Since you got about 2 weeks before the nest migration change... try to see if you can get a better Geodude with good IV's before making the evolution.. If it so happens that you couldn't get a better one I would pick Candidate#1... Golem's are Terrific attackers its worth pouring Stardust into if you have a good move set. Good Luck !
Golem is probably my most versatile attacker. I like using this guy. I disagree with that one comment about Golem not being a must have attacker. Golem makes attacking a gym that much easier. When you're deep into attacking a gym, usually the last couple of Pokemon that are left are Pokemon Golem can attack SE.
