Which Golem would you power to 30?
So I finally have enough candy to power a Golem to level 30 (from 20). I know Golem isn't the strongest pokemon around. But I already have 2 lvl 30 Rhydons, I like diversity and I have plenty of stardust (500k).
My choices are as followed:
lvl 20, 91.1% IVs, Rock Throw / Ancient Power (legacy) lvl 20, 86.7% IVs, Mud Slap / Rock BlastThe first one has above 90% IVs and a legacy moveset which makes it kinda cool. It also might be strong vs Dragonite? I don't have a good Dragonite counter powered up besides my Snorlax (stuck in a gym) or my Blissey (hopefully soon stuck in a gym).
The second Golem would be for defence. He doesn't have elite CP but I figured he would still get ok placement (comparable to my Exeggcutor) and would be hard to fight against with 2 move types, a strong quick attack and a fast, 3 bar charge attack. That said, I'm currently in 8 gyms. Seven of those I've held for about a month. I also still have at least 1 good defender left (my Blissey) and 1 high cp-fodder 'mon (a Bite Gyarados).
Which one should I/would you power up?
Bonus question: today I had to fight a gym with 4 Dragonites and realised I don't have a good ice pokemon powered up. Would a Confusion/Avalance Jynx be a decent option to power to 30? I'm also going to power up a Cloyster, but I kinda like Jynx... is she good enough with those moves?

Problem isn't stardust, it's Geodude candy. Geodude is pretty rare here (the Netherlands, mostly bug and water pokemon). Isn't Rock Throw / Ancient Power decent as an attacker? I understand Stone Edge is better, but that's a 1/6 chance of getting that exact moveset. And it will be a few months before I evolve another one ánd have enough candy to get to lvl 30.
And yeah I figured as much with the Jynx, was just kinda excited when I evolved one and it's moves where not Pound and/or Draining Kiss XD.
Ancient power (legacy as you pointed out) is the best def moveset for golem.
For defence, I personally would power that one because...
1) despite the lack of 3 DPS on the quick move (RT VS MS) the charge move is the best for def (and possibly even att/pvp in the future)
2) the charge move is legacy and much more rare.
3) if you are wanting golem as a defender you are clearly not overly bothered about it not being the "best defender" so go i would go with the cooler legacy one.
As for ice counters (dragonite I presume?) ideally you want powder snow, frost breath or even ice shard rather than confusion. There are plenty of dragonite counters out there now...cloyster, pilsoswine, jynx and of course lapras (if you are fortunate enough to have one or 2) to name the top ones I use
I wouldn't power up Golem for defense (just a worse Rhydon), so you should make your choice on an attack basis.
If Rock Throw had come with Rock Blast, I'd say definitely. With the mixed types, I'd say no on that one.
It's unfortunate that your candies are limited. If you really want a higher-level attacking Golem, I'd go with the first one, as Ancient Power, though slow, gives a lot of damage for the energy, plus it's legacy. And hey, if you need a 'mon to throw in a gym, at least it's a three-bar charge move with good CP.
