Vaporeon vs Gyarados

Why on the new attacker list is Gyarados listed in 3+ and Vaporeon on level 1.5? I feel like your gonna do more damage with Gyry outside of Golem or Rydon matchup with the higher DPS moves. While the site is big on total damage, I appreciate the quicker KO; at best I feel like they should be on par.

Offhand, I know that the lack of stab on the gyarados quick move hurts it. Also, gamepress tends to value total damage, so tankiness is more important in rankings than it may be in real life, depending on how you play.

Outside of Golem or Rhydon, what exactly are people using Vaporeon for? I never use my water pokemon for attacking, just a Venusaur and Tangela.

vs snorlax, dragonites, tyranitars, practically vs any other pokemon even blissey sometimes

even if something like dragonite resist him, but his tankiness and ability to spam attacks so fast it makes him so good

You must have real slim pickings for pokemon if you are choosing Vaporeon in those match-ups...

You made a wrong conclusion, what i said has nothing to do what i choose to use or which i have powered up

I am pointing out why vaporeon is good even with the lack of attack stat and is an excellent defender, the pokemon is just good, i am answering a question not saying ''the only pokemon i have is vaporeon''

My point was that in the only real match-up in which water pokemon would be used, Vaporeon is a better option then Gyarados, hence it is a higher tier.

Vaporeon is an excellent attacker against the Pokemon that were just mentioned. I always used a Vaporeon against Snorlax/Chansey before good fighting move sets were released.

On the other hand, I never preferred gyarados as an attacker. Too overrated in my opinion.

This thread has an explanation from "dondon151", the creator of the list, that addresses that question exactly.

Basically he points out, Gyarados is not all that, even though many people seem to think it is.
For specialist tasks he is beaten by better specialist, and as a generalist he is nothing special compared to other stronger generalists.
He is a 'jack of all trades but master of none'

With all that said, you can still use him when and how you want - the lists release did not change that.

I rarely ever use Vaporeon for attacking gyms anymore. But I do use vapes a lot for prestiging. I understand the thought behind Gyarados drop to tier 3+ but I think it was a little too extreme to make a point.

You have a Dragonite with each moveset combo, ofcourse you hardly use Vapes :).
