Is reporting worth it?

I reported a player 3 times that was spoffing/hacking and finially got him banned now I think, at least his main account. Out of his vengance he took his other 30 so accounts and now controls 105 of 112 gyms all with his 30 accounts and level 10s. Scan Palm Desert on gymhuntr if you dont believe me. So I say is it worth it? to piss off a hacker

Looks like a lot of strong red players there - why do you say they are all spoof accounts?

  1. i caught 1 of the gyms being spoofed, took down a level 10 gym and rebooted it to level 10 in a matter of 5mins with no one in attacking distance.
  2. This problem only started about a month ago.
  3. I really dont think there is a ban of 30 players traveling around the desert every night taking over every gym with a extrodinary amount of top level mons.

Because 70 -80% of the names are RedEyeDragonSnakeSomething, either they have a lot of autistic kids with the same limited vocabulary in town or it's one single autist with multiple accounts.

He/she also uses HBIC, hamburger names and liquor brands. better than the old reliables 1q2w3e4r5t lol.

You are misusing the term 'autistic'

I actually know what an autist is, you may want to look it up on Wikipedia or something. Pokemon Go is a simple monster catching game which is fun to play when walking around town, playing such a game for hours and hours with GPS spoofing while sitting at home on the sofa is a sure sign of autism or a similar mental handicap.

Actually sometime it's a sure sign you have a job that you work 50+ hours a week at, mostly on your feet and at the end of the day you want to relax and play Pokemon and after a 10-12 hour day you just don't have the energy to go walk a 10k.

I'm not familiar with the current game market, but I'm sure when you're at home sitting on your sofa there are many much more interesting more mentally challenging games than Pokemon Go. I never played any of the original Pokemon games, but from what I've heard they seem to be much better suited for sofa playing.

Meh, none that I can play on devices I already own (iPad I won at an office Xmas party and my phone that was a gift). I'm not buying a DS or a Switch for one game.

Getting rid of spoofers at the grassroots level is an exercise in stupidity. Spoofers have more than one account. And if you get one banned, another dozen will be created. And because they are cheaters, they'll level those right up too. And they'll be back worse than before because you would have angered them.

Spoofers are a huge blemish on this game. And fixing the problem is well beyond the control of the player. Thankfully spoofing only corrupts the gyms.

When/if Niantic introduces trading to the game and make it monetarily rewarding to cheat, they'll destroy the game completely.

As it stands now I'd say most of the gyms in my area are controlled by cheaters. if this is a recurring problem then the gym mechanic needs to be reworked. As it stands now, cheating only affects other players in the gym mechanic.

Reporting won't stop spoofing/botting by itself, but an increase in reports might be the only thing that will prod Niantic into taking anti-spoofing/anti-bot measures more seriously.

I feel that reporting occasionally works.

105 GYMS? WTF IS THAT GUY DOING WITH HIS LIFE!
But srsly i hate greedy people... 10 gyms is all i want to hold for coins :'(

Yes, keep reporting them and hope the next banwave hits them. That's what I do and I think most people are confusing spoofing and botting. Spoofing in fact is less of a problem than bots because spoofers mostly play from their phones manually exploiting Android mock location setting (this one seems to be taken care of in latest security patches), but bots is the greatest nightmare. Earlier they could only collect stuff, but now they can also battle gyms... they just set a route and the bot does the rest for them, ,no manual work needed. All that being said botters/spoofers still need to spend not just their time, but also some real money because obviously they need to buy the accounts first as getting to lvl 35 is not fast enough and they need API hash keys to avoid Niantic bans... so if you keep reporting them and Niantic finally bans their accounts they will be left with nothing. Sure, they can create new accounts and start from scratch, but by that time they will most likely lose interest.

Lol...Botters/Spoofers don't buy accounts. They sell them. They create an account add it to the BOT. Once it reaches level 35 then they farm the bests mons they can so they can post it for more money's. They have 20 or 30 accounts running at all times. Most of them don't even play or like the game. It's just business to them. So as far as leave getting frustrated for losing 1 or even 10 accounts and losing interest and giving up, you are quite delusional. There are small companies in Asia that have people doing this 24/7 on 30 computers with dedicated servers. Workers taking turns in shifts. Botters losing interest lol, Botters don't even play.

This is industrial scale you're talking about and these are not your average botters who take over your neighbourhood. In fact I'm not sure why would such "businesses" be interested in taking down gyms and holding them, huh? What's the point? Collecting coins? Why the hell do they need coins if they have 24/7 shifts and 30 computers, lol. I do get the idea of running bots to make money and selling accounts, but this is not what I'm talking about and this is not what most people are dealing with in gyms, some of these people are just trolls who want to piss off others, this is their pathetic definition of "fun"...

From where I come from, you don't go over somebody's head to have them banned ,fined, arrested, or have someone or something taken from them without suffering consequences for it. If it happens to you then you make sure retribution is swift and brutal. This should never happen twice, or you didn't do it right. Snitches end up with stitches or in ditches, where I come from.
I don't see why spoofers/ hackers need to hold a gyms either though. With a click of a button they could just have the desired amount of level 3 gyms taken down and the place a magicarp with three accounts on ten different gyms. Then cash out every 22 hours for coin. Don't see a point in having to constantly control a gym. Why draw attention to yourself and piss others off. The reason you spoof is because you are too lazy to do it the right way and want results faster. Monopolizing control of an entire areas gyms doesn't prove your superior, it proves your an assclown.

I did not know reporting in pogo was so serious. Hopefully the OP does not end up in a ditch with stitches;)

Never lol, you don't stitch the one ones you put in the ditches. Nanitec should come out with a messaging system so that you can tell another player who might have done something like snakeing that spot you just prestiged open, or dropped Blissey into that level 5 gym you have been working on with your buddies. Should be able to speak your mind and let others explain them selves. Shouldn't have to go report them like your the Pokémon Police.

Ah. I wasn't sure if that post was serious. It's kind of silly talking tough in a Pokemon q&a, kind of takes the edge off of everything said.

Also, the "snitches get stitches" ethos in the ghetto is massively misguided, but at least it has an internal logic that makes sense: the police and justice system have such an awful record of being harsh and unjust against minorities in the ghetto that it is always better for everyone living there not to get them involved.

Applying that slogan to reporting obvious cheaters to a company that usually doesn't even bother to ban their accounts so they can't play one game anymore is incredibly insulting - to the people who actually live under those real injustices.

Sure its only a game. But those who have nothing better to do at home on their sofa than playing PG should have their own league where they play with each other and don't take the gym spots of those who actually walk around. Just like in sports, it's not allowed to use bicycles in marathon runs and not allowed to use motorbikes in bicycle races, each have their own races.

I do other things too lol. But I'd be totally down for that. I actually think it would be cool to have gyms that are trainer level restricted, (ie. 1-10 gym, 11-20 gyms, etc.), that way even players under level 10 could actually get in gyms. This game was never going to be an even playing field. Should teenagers who have no job and rich parents so they can play for hours a day outside walking and buying incubators have their own league separate from adults who actually work and pay bills and can't spend that kind of money or time on the game? Should players with brand new iPhones that have 10+ hours of battery life while playing not play against players with 3 year old phones with cracked screens and maybe 1 hour of battery while playing? As long as spoofers spend money, there will be spoofers.

What if you were married to Cersei Lannister but Daenerys Targaryen came calling? What if it was to save a dying baby or a kitten? What if by cheating you could avert a nuclear war? What if cheating made your wiener bigger? What if it gave you super powers? What if it could end the Israeli/Palestinian conflict? What if it could end world hunger?
