Magneton against Gyarados

Gyarados has proved to be a decent defender. Despite the high cp, the new moveset ( mainly dragon tail) hits very hard and there is not a strong counter against it (like lapras against dragonite that can take down at least 2 of them without fainting)

I counter Gyarados with 3 Jolteons, with moveset TS/TB, TS/ D and VS/ TB. All have >2000 cp. However, I m sure you have noticed that too, even though Gyarados is so vulnerable against Jolteon, it also hit very hard with DT, HP ( which usually is 1HKO) and outrage( though this is dodged easily). So it is not rare to have my Jolteon severelly damaged or even faintes after a battle with Gyarados.

Recently I evolved a magneton which came with the best moveset CB/ ZP. Do you think it will be better against Gyarados since it resists dragon tail? Of course it will be still vulnerable to HP

What about Ampharos? has anyone any experience with ampharos?

Lanturn CB/TB can take down two Gyarados with double his CP.
Or one Gyarados with double his CP without even dodging HP.

Ampharos CB/ZP is also more reliable than Jolteon. At least on paper... haven't tested it yet.

Sounds great. One could mention, that lanturn hardly exceeds half of Gyarados' CP. :-)

It doesn't resist Hydro Pump, Lanturn would be better on paper. The big grasses may be good by resisting Hydro Pump.

Bite is super effective against Exeggutor, though DT does more damage, Exeggutor takes more damage from Bite than other big grasses.

Dragonite is still elite as long as the defending Gyarados gets Bite + Hydro Pump or Crunch.

magneton is realy good atacker agains gyarados with discharge beacuse you will be able dodge and you will not owerkill him but joltion know same move and have better stats so he is my first choice, and with ampharos i did not try it jet but have more hp and still similar atack and defence so i think it will stand longer in battle. an cp diffrence with those pokemon it does not matter whan you are atacking :)

while on subject , any tips on how to avoid the hydro pump ? i can dodge some time , but would like to be more effective in it since potions is back to be a rare drop

Dodge all. So you have not to indentify hydro pump itself, just the yellow flash.

I usually use Jolteon w/ Thunder Bolt against Gyarados. So when I already release two Thunder Bolts, I will prepare to dodge, especially when the Gyarados suddenly slow his fast attacks.

Honestly... Magneton is so squishy and only adds resistance to Dragon which just wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. I'd use a Jolteon over Magneton every time.

If I was going to use a tankier pokemon to take down Gyarados I would use either Lanturn or a Clefable with Charge Beam.
