New gym system: wait or power up pokemon?

Hey guys,

Considering Niantic will change the gym system, are you still powering up your pokemon or waiting for the update?

I'm not waiting, I'm playing the game now and not 4 months in the future from now.

I still power up the good mons.

I'm not sure how changing the gym system will render Snorlax, Dragonite, or other top tier mons useless compared to Primeape, Pidgeot, and Raticate.

Unless the gym change reverses the stats on pokemon, higher base-stat mons should still be better. I can't picture any change that makes Snorlax less of a mon than Vileplume.

I'm more afraid of unannounced nerfs and buffs than gym restructuring.

I'm lvl 39 so I'm already committed with about a dozen maxed out mons, and I'm continuing to incrementally power up several more. I'm assuming from your question that you think there may be a shift in the power balance of mons generally, so which ones to power up? I wouldn't think a paradigm shift is likely, although anything's possible. But there were complaints about the buffing and nerfing recently, and the walking, stardust and candy people had invested that suddenly meant little. There's a degree of change fatigue that is sustainable and some changes that will just break the game for many. I don't think Niantic want that having set a model in progress so far. So, do you think Snorlax is going anywhere, or is the gym mechanics, style more likely to be the target for change. I think the complaint is that the gym system may be "broken", and it may be dominated by sheer HP and CP, plus movesets, but despite that it seems to me that powering up mons is just part of the meta-game, and which mons to power up varies from person to person. So I'm powering up, and if that's a mistake I reckon you'll hear screams from me and everywhere else, IMO :)

Just powering up the top tier ones I have, I am very close to level 36 so if I get there before the gym update (which I will), I am gonna only power up my top defenders and attackers (2xDragonite, 2xVaporeon, 1xExeggutor, 1xArcanine, 1xBlissey, 1xSnorlax, 2xGyarados), after that I will keep saving dust and candies until gym rebalance, not gonna power up some others until I know what they will become, and it will be hard because I have 800k dust and I want to power up mon I like like Slowking, Poliwrath, Machamp, Espeon...

The way I think is if they made a move change with gen2 release and screwed all the dust I put on mon like my previous Poliwrath, Alakazam or Charizard I won't let this happen with the incoming rebalance, if I know about it I can do something to be prepared, and that is what I am doing.

What new gym system?

It has been anounced by Niantic that we will get 3 more major updates this year (one each trimester), we got gen2 on first trimester of 2017 and on a conference they said that the next big update (2nd trimester) it will be a gym rebalance with new features, they want to enhance cooperative gameplay so my guess is that you will get rewarded by taking down gyms with multiple people (maybe more coins or some more items, xp and dust), and also a new battle system, again just my guess but I think we will see battle stats introduced, like poison, sleep, burn, paralyze... and also boosts on attack, defense, speed with some new items.

All the last I said is just based on my guess, but new battling system and gym rework is said by Niantic, so it will come 100% sure on the next couple of months ;)

I have too many I want to power up with the rebalance of moves and Gen2, so I'm not waiting. What's the worst thing that can happen?

Unless you are in real shortage of strong Pokemon, I don't see why wouldn't you wait when you know for a fact that change is coming.

I'm not powering up shit.
