I evolved Starmie with water hidden power...

Isn't that basically water gun? DPS-wise. I got a HP/HP starmie so I think I will actually use it (in addition to my vaporeons) but I kinda laughed out loud at my hidden power luck.

I am terrible at DPS calculating so what is water hidden power's dps (since it will have STAB)?

Same DPS, Same EPS. Hidden power is slower than water gun, which means it will have better dps when defending but will be clumsier on attack if you want to dodge. Generally you want faster quick attacks on a attacker and slower quick attacks on a defenders, so water hidden power is a defensive watergun

Gotta disagree with the folks about difficulty of dodge for this move...

If you are the type that dodges everything (quick and charge), a 1.5 second move is pretty good. I dodge with confusion consistently, and it's about the same speed.

The nice thing about it is that you get one shot in, dodge, 1 shot in, dodge, etc... A very easy rhythm to get into.

If you had Water Gun, you would be trying to get 3 (or maybe 4 if you push it or the defender has a slow quick move) shots in before dodging. That's a lot harder to pull off - it's easy to accidentally take one too many, or one too few shots.

13.something, and harder to dodge with because it's 3 times slower. May be better in some cases in terms of DPS due to how rounding works, though...

Agree - on defense, hidden power (water) is definitely better, but starmie is not a particularly attractive defender.

Don't reveal your hidden power, people might laugh at you.

It's never going to be better because of how rounding works. Floor+1 favours quicker moves. If you use 3 fast moves then you can get +3 damage, if you use one slow move in the same time period then you get +1 damage.

Pick any number, floor+1 it, then multiply the result by 3 i.e. the damage of 3 Water Guns. It's always going to be larger than the same initial number multiplied by 3, then applying floor+1 - the damage of a single Water type Hidden Power.

If Hidden Power was something special, like say 20 EPS, that would be cool. Right now, though, I think of it as more of an interesting collector mon, without much use.

Water type Hidden Power's just flat out worse than Water Gun on offense due to flooring +1 of damage. Starmies don't make great defenders, so it being better on defense isn't something to be happy about.

So for example if the damage formula results in Water Gun dealing 3.2 damage, then it gets floored to 3, then +1 for 4 damage. You can use any number though.

Hidden Power has 3x Water Gun's base damage so it will deal 9.6 damage which gets floored to 9 then +1 for 10 damage, while 3 Water Guns which take the exact same time would deal 12 damage, and result in the same energy, and depending on the Pokemon you're attacking into you could get more than 3 Water Guns in between dodges but not fit in another Hidden Power, creating an even bigger damage difference.

I got a Starmie with ground Hidden Power and Psychic as a charge move. Think it could be a surpise for electric attackers.
