Best usage scenario for DT/HP Gyarados?

Evolved my 6th karp and now it's a DT/HP

Would you say DT is better than Bite for a general attacker? I'm excited to use him in a gym as it has a higher DPS than Bite and the performance bite has been rather mixed for me as far as my experience is concerned. The SE on dragonite seems very useful too, although I didn't get a DT/OR version (but definitely content with HP)

(my other five are all bite, 2HP, 1 DP, 1 Outrage, 1 Twister)

Stab = SE

HP hits like neutral on draggy because of stab.
Same goes for OR, it's super effective, but without stab it hits like neutral w/ stab.

You got yourself the best Gyarados, imo.
DT is a better option in general. It's better specially against Dragonite and also Tyranitar, since he resists Dark.

Bite is only optimal against Psychic, Ghost and Steel, three types that you most likely will not see in gyms. Maybe with the gym rework Steelix will get a boost and Bite will become more useful, but that's a big MAYBE.

Against Nite,
HP: + 25% STAB - 25% Water Resistance = Neutral
OR: + 25% Dragon Effectiveness = 25% dmg bonus

Regardless of the damage calculation, I feel more agile to attack with B HP rather than DT HP for gyarados. Maybe need more time to get used to DT in general.

What do you think of B OR gyarados in attack?

Bite/OR Gyarados is good on attack too. It's a passasble counter to Steel wing dragonites, and is pretty good in general for other stuff. Bite/OR gyarados is kinda just like a worse dragonite, which is still really good.

He's fantastic as an attacker and defender, I absolutely love my DT/HP Gyarados. Great moveset.

Relative to almost every single other pokemon in the game, Gyarados with DT is very good on defense. In a vacuum, no defender in this game is difficult to beat, but relative to other mons Gyarados is very formidable with DT.

I just evolved my shiny Gyarados and I got DT/OR. I put it in the gym to see how long it'll last. I haven't used it to attack yet but I am excited to test it out. I have a DT/OR Dragonite that destroys everything including Blissey and Lax.

I love that set against Dragonite, and the Gyarados doesn't take any SE damage in return.
