New gym system.

What order of mons would you like in gyms? First come first serve? Pokemon level? Etc.?
How would you like the new gym revamp to be?

Right now its all about not being on the bottom of the gym. Fix that and watch gyrados and rhydon double weaks dissapearing would be nice.

There needs to be a nitch for other types to get in also. Electric, bug, etc...

Each gym having different tiers by player level, that can be held by any team would have been nice also. Gym lvl a: 5-14, b: 15-24, c: 25-40. Current system has no room for junior players.

Not more than 1 per type in the gym... want diversity, make use of outlet other good defensive mons even if low CP.

What about a hybrid of the first 7 mons must be different, but if you prestige the 10K for slots 8,9,and 10 you get to choose whether to repeat a type or not? Oh, and discourage shaving by having the gym drop 10k whenever the 8,9,10 mons get kicked so you can't shave it to 49k and pop in the 10th slot with one battle.

No - this would encourage shaving enemy gyms. If I could just beat the lowest PKM in probably a few seconds, and strip 10K from the gym, I would do drive-bys all the time. The new meta would just be level 7 gyms (many wouldn't bother to prestige 10K). Also think how pissed you would be if you were prestiging up 9K, some random passerby just decides to jump in and win one fight - boom, your 15-20 mins of work completely wasted.

I think you misunderstood his explanation - he was saying that an opponent would need to drop a level 10 gym from 50,000 to 40,000 points before the bottom pokemon got kicked out (in contrast to the current system, where lowering a gym from 50,000 to 49,000 drops out the lowest pokemon). This would drastically reduce shaving. IMO it's a really great idea.

I was misunderstanding - thanks. I agree it would help, but think there is some risk of transferring the problem from a 50K/Level 10 issue to a 40K/Level 9 issue...

Consider - once a gym hits 50K, and then starts to go down, there is little incentive to train it back up to 50K (since can't leave a defender) .... so in the new meta stable gyms would either dwindle down towards 40K, or the shaver would just have to work harder and win 10 battles (still easy as an attacker). Now, once again they just prestige up a bit, and get their pkm in place.

On the positive side, now at least a legit player can come by and train back up to 50K, which currently can't be done after a shaver strike. So on balance yeah, I agree it would be a useful change.

The biggest issue with gyms is that they are too easy to shave. If they made the prestige drop from each battle smaller and the all clear bonus bigger, it would be less important to get a higher spot. Making the attack stat less influential in the CP calculation would also help.

I would like to see them in order by how much damage they would do in their worst five fights against a set level attcker before fainting, similar to pokebattler. This would account for double weaknesses and movesets.

I would like to see a system where defender can earn defence points by defending gyms. The AI would then respond by making more and more dodges the better the defender is. Of course mons with high defence stats will earn points more easily making room for more natural defenders in the gyms.

All these ideas would just change the meta to 5 "different" mons IMO...If they limit to 1st species, but still rank by CP, then you can just sort by CP again and go down the list...

Make defense value most important or movesets and everyone goes back to using the same thing again...

What I fear is they make it so you have to visit a gym everyday to stay in it which would make gyms probably a big hassle or very hard to keep gyms at all...

All these ideas posted don't really work IMO and I don't like any of them so far (1st one in, 1st out; Pokemon level, 2 tier system so Spots 1-4 for level 30+, 4-7 for 20-30, etc...tons of high level people will be all locked out)

I don't have any good ideas neither, but I think the whole thing needs to be scraped and a new way needs to be done for coins/dust so save your Pokecoins since the days of 100 coins a day maybe ending if they change gyms drastically.

"the days of 100 coins a day maybe ending if they change gyms drastically"

Ahh, now we're talking $$$ - this may be the most relevant point, if there are too many in my position (easy to hold 10 gyms/day if the drop-off in players hasn't been much reversed by Gen2, special events etc). Only Niantic knows for sure if the ratio of available gym spots per active player is favorable to their bottom line! I've wondered if there would be gym consolidation and established gyms would disappear in alignment with player base....

When a pokemon reaches the point where it would normally be removed from a gym, instead let it remain in the gym, but become inactive in defending the gym (i.e., attackers need no longer attack it). When the entire defending team has been defeated this way, then they are all kicked out at the same time. Until then, whatever rewards are available for holding the gym are available to all the team members, both active and inactivated ones. This leads to better teamwork and eliminates shaving entirely. Additionally, if a gym is not torn down within a certain time period after a pokemon has been inactivated (say 24 hours), then it gets reactivated. This would encourage attacking a gym for the purpose of bringing it down rather than as a piecemeal attempt to inflict a wound. Last, rather than order the defenders by CP, do it by their tankiness (defense X HP). This would help discourage putting in Pokemon with high attack stats and poor defensive ones.

Wow, I've never heard anyone suggest this idea before! It sounds absolutely crazy, but I wonder if it could actually work...

Actually had the same idea, no poke is kicked until the gym is fully cleared, not actually sure on the pokes being rated by tankiness though, mind you I haven't seen a better suggestion yet really (cp, trainer level, pokemon level etc) all have various issues, I saw someone list the amount you contribute to a gym being a multiplier which may be good as it rewards those actually willing to put the effort in to the gym, also I'd suggest that when a player becomes inactive they can't receive any benefits until they become active again, encourages them to buff it back up, lastly maybe not a 24 hour reset but like an hourly 1 k buff if not attacked, you still want your team to have a defensive presence and not just rely on the game to reset the gyms, however I do agree if they built back up over time that would encourage full take downs.

I think the guy that defeated the previous gym should be in top position in the gym. If it is more than one, they are ranked by order of input, and everyone else goes below them. This would greatly improve taking down gyms for weaker players.

A variation of that, without straying too far from the current system:
Count the amount of prestige a player has gained for the gym and taken off the previous enemy gym, and have that number influence that player's ranking in the gym.

This would be enough to push a borderline defender like Venusaur or Poliwrath higher, but would appropiately do nowhere near enough to help a low level pokemon or something like Caterpie or Magikarp.

-Players using dual accounts to shave a spot in a gym would become more obvious if they are marked with only +1000 prestige.
-Someone that took time to train up the gym and open several extra spots would be rewarded with an extra buffer.
-Someone that snipes a spot or jumps into an opening without any help would not get any special benefits.
-A player at the bottom of a maxed level 10 gym could fight to push themselves higher even though the total prestige in the gym doesn't change.

A change in SE/NVE/STAB would be welcomed. It would be great if type mattered more. Not exactly what you're asking but it bugs me.

If the goal is just to stop dual account shaving, still really like this idea:

Don't kick a pokemon until the gym drops to the next lower level.
i.e.:
10th pokemon gets kicked at 40,000 prestige.
9th gets kicked at 30,000.
8th gets kicked at 20,000.
7th gets kicked at 16,000.
...
4th gets kicked at 4,000.
3rd gets kicked at 2,000.
2nd and 1st both get get kicked at 0.

However much prestige is needed to raise a level and add a pokemon, that is how much prestige is needed to lower a level and kick a pokemon.

To supplement this though, I think the bonus prestige taken off for clearing an enemy gym should increase for when clearing 7 or more pokemon. Maybe reward an extra -250 (-500?) prestige for each pokemon defeated after the first six pokemon.
