How much do you "spend" everyday on this game?
Most folks have to drive to good areas and such. This costs gasoline. How about walking time too? Realize your time isn't worthless if you get paid for work. You could do something that would generate income instead of walking to hatch eggs.
So what do you estimate your daily investment in Pokémon go to be?

lol I lost a lot of my handles sadly. Yeah was never a great 3 point shooter, but use to be almost automatic around 10-5 away from th from basket lol. But regarding gas I'm a runner so i would be spending that money on gas to visit trails anyways lol. My biggest cost w/ this game is prob the purchase of an external battery...
I mostly play while running errands, going to places on my normal route of the day, walking the dog so I try to keep gas use at a minimum. I don't normally make specific Pokemon play time unless the family does a local trip (water areas normally).
I do occasionally drive to "farther" off gyms (maybe 5 miles or less tops?) that I don't normally pass, but those tend to stagnate for weeks/months on end unless I get shaved off normally so I don't mind it that much and getting coins/dust is sorta nice, especially now since I like to max a mon if I can put it in a gym immediately.
The exercising and walking the dog "slightly" further has loss me 15 pounds I think...(I was never overweight to begin with though).
Not big, I don't have much time to play so I just use my day on my favor, maybe spending a little more time then I would be if I just walked. There is a park with a route where I can collect 11 pokestops, and it is close to the gym I usually go, so I walk to the park, get the 11 pokestops and get out right in front of the gym (not a pogo gym, a real life one), and it costs me more only about 10 minutes more to get there and more 10 to get back home. In the weekends, where I wouldn't be doing anything important anyway, I go to the park and farm about 2 hours a day. It is called a hobby, unless you are one of those asian study addicted you can't live without one.
Very honest. The only honest answer so far. Thank you. Everyone else, while serious enough about this game to post on Gamepress, spends zero real time playing and only plays while they are in waiting lines at doctors offices (etc) and do not invest time or money. I guess we are the only level 30+ guys that post here.
The way you word it is interesting. I think you are right though since even though I am not hardcore at all, I still seem to level faster than a lot of people in my area (pretty much everyone who was higher level than me in my area is now same or lower in level now). They must play even less than me.
I think the problem for me and I assume others is that as a "game" (and as a PC gamer), POGO is pretty weak in terms of skill/what you can do/achieve/strategy, etc...
I usually rather play a PC game if I am going to "play" something rather than sit and farm pokemon all day.
Also, free player and $0 spent so far so thank you for all the people who have purchased items to allow some of us players to enjoy the game as well.
Thank you for your input.
I get that you and others think POGO is a "shitty" game but if you're playing that time has value. Even if you spend it in a shitty game. So that amount of time has a monetary value that can be roughly defined per player to some extent.
I'm trying to figure out how someone that spends at least 2 hrs a day earning $.90 worth of coins comes to the conclusion that someone that thinks their time is worth more that 50 cents an hour is an idiot.
I wouldn't call it a "shitty" game as you put it and I don't even think it's a "shitty" game so your assumption of my thinking is actually incorrect.
If I did, I would instantly quit and just move and play something else...least of all post here with my free time.
For a lot of us I assume, we started playing since we have kids (why some of us don't grind non-stop and the 'young' kids are home with us day/night so we don't do gym runs in the middle of the night).
Just curious, what are your bios? Single/kids/married? I think a lot of that dictates your thinking and kids are a big game/time/priority changer.
Unfortunately, we don't live in the Pokemon world where it seems like everyone has a Pokemon career.
I've also said, if anything, I actually don't get that upset with these changes/bad moveset evolves and just keep going and going and play the cards we've been dealt in the game.
All that said, trying to justify or explain a $$ value to time played is a waste of time. For a lot of us, it's something to do and it's Pokemon which we probably like (I played the TCGO quite a bit before, watch the cartoon, etc...).
Even though I wouldn't spend 8 hours or 14 hour days grinding non-stop trying to get EXP, I do try to maximize my exp and use lucky eggs for evolve parties, etc...all the time...and don't think that just because "other" people do are idiots...
People waste time doing all sorts of stuff and if people want to play non-stop, more power to them.
I waste plenty of time myself on useless non-monetary benefiting activities.
I live in a small village, so I have to go to the 250k people city around 10 miles away from me. Obviously that does cost some gas and time. I am a student, so I can occassionally take the bus for free, when its not too late though, but mostly I play in the evening/night. Whenever I do that, I want it to be worth the inconvenience of the ride, so I play several hours, between 4 and 10, especially if I am farming a nest or hardcore grinding some dust in downtown.
Spent about 20 € on incubators during several events, but thats fine to me.
Without PoGo I would probably have a lot more time, but its fun to explore, be outside, enjoy some parks and nature in the night and talk to people. I would even say, I found a friend by PoGo. So it was worth my time/gas imo.

Interesting, I think people that spend money on the game, actually like the game. Dare I say mostly kids (and family members of those kids who enjoy sharing time with the kid) and newbies (people who find the game exciting because it's a whole new world to them).
Most aspects of the game are pretty dodgy, aka total shit. One thing that isn't shit, is the grinding that is usually involved to get something good. It's a funny thing, is grinding, some people couldn't care less for it yet others relish it and spend a lot of time dreaming and working towards the thing that they desire.
And so if grinding is the appeal, why would you pay real money for something that makes it easier?
If you like the game, you probably pay. If you like the grind, you probably don't.
In this context I don't think there's a right and wrong because it is 'perspective' which dictates what is right for the individual.
p.s. there's more to it, that's just my 10 minutes worth of thinking lol
Well as a college student I play this when i'm done with school work for the day. Time wise probably to hatch 3-6 eggs I at least walk 6 miles a day playing this game. Money wise i've only wasted it when events benefited me buying incubators. I don't waste gas for a car since I commute on bus and got student pass.
Putting a $ value on recreational time just doesn't work for me.
If I was not playing PoGo, it doesn't automatically follow that I would be doing something to earn money...in fact I would be doing something else that may in fact cost more money. It is recreation time, not work time...and most recreational activities cost a lot more than PoGo.
Does anyone really pass up an opportunity to earn money to play PoGo?
With that said, I don't actually spend a lot of money to get to a spot to hunt. I have parks local that work well, and I use it more as a way to excercise while fooling myself in to not realising I am excercising.
Sure, I have caught trains or driven to spots to hunt, but these are rare occassions - I don't have the time to treck all over the state to hunt...but when I have the time I will do it.
My major cost will be incubators, but that is because my time is valuable, and for the price of few cents an hour I can get more XP and more stardust with a chance at a good hatch. I am using my time more effectively, and thereby requiring less time to reach my goal. Incubators are an investment in my time, not a cost of money - I can get far more money for my time than incubators use, so I can play less and earn more with my time...and achieve the same in game.
I guess it is all relative, and dependent on what factors you want to consider.
Spent like 50€ on the game (last 10 during halloween) and 1/1h30m of playing every day , have lost 11kg and still losing some more weight, my goal is to lose 10 more to get to my ideal weight.
So I have to say 50€ paid to enjoy, have fun, walk a lot, discover hundreds of new places, meeting new people and if it was not enough losing weight too during those 7 months, they are probably the best 50€ I have spent ever.
And I would have spend a lot more if they game did not have sooo many bugs and things that they need to fix, some things that stop me to put more money on it at this point are crashes, gps drift saying I am driving while I am still (and no, it is not my phone, brand new One Plus 3T only 3 months old), nearby disappearing every 3 mins and can't see mon around me, just the ones at stops a km away, this is ruining my game experience a lot.
Level 36 trainer here.
I would estimate that I have put about $100-$120 dollars into the game buying primarily incubators and upgrading my storage.
Now I don't spend as much since I am able to maintain 8-10 gym defenders on a daily basis.
I got a bit too trigger happy spending at the beginning wanting to hatch as many eggs as I could. In hopes that I would hatch some rare monsters. lol I don't regret a single penny that I have spend. I enjoy the game a lot since it brings back good memories of the original games.
Team Valor, by the way.
