It feels so unfair
So today I woke up and saw everyone was talking about "Dratini raining". But I haven't found a single one during the whole day.
Then I saw the explanation that this was a bug that ended within several hours. But still, there were people who had taken advantage of it.
Now I feel terrible. I've been a "garbage collector". A bunch of Woopers, Psyducks, Marill, non-shiny Magikarp. Honestly, all I expect from this festival is Shiny Magikarp. Or just end quickly; my Dratini are gone (spawns at lower rate w/o festival).
What a festival.

Was playing right after the update and din't see a single Dratini around ;/ but maybe that's it because I live in a small town and not in a big city that's a huge disavantage in all aspects too.
But what i got was some Omanytes that normally are never around and Seel, that did not even had him on the Pokedex lol so this event working good in this way.
I totally agree with you, Niantic screwed it once again, or everyone benefits or no one should. I can understand that the game is based on RNG, and that someone can get a 100%IV Dragonite with DB/DC on first attempt and I could need 10 to get it, but when the company that runs the game makes an event it should be equally fair for EVERYONE, I have seen people saying that in 2-3 hours since the event launched they got 200+ Dratini candies, even seeing clusters of them like I am seeing Magikarps...
I was sleeping because the event started at 9pm for me and I had to go to work next day, but I thought it was ok, I had a full week to try to play and get some more dratini, magikarp, shellder and seel on that priority order. Now it seems that they have removed the rate completely, nice job Niantic, really nice job...
My only gripe is that when I was in an event for Chanseys and porygons they did not exist here and there was zero chance to farm any of them. I get it, they did it by biome and those folks benefited from that. They drowned in them. They picked up TONS of valuable candy and mons. Good for them. However, when an event comes that I could really kill in my biome they snatch it away and have me farming the same magikarp I could really care less about scattered amidst pokemon that are more useless than those. Oh and the rare chance at a nerfed to nothing Lapras. I could not care less if people in other biomes received 5K Dratini candy during this event. Seriously, I do not care. But why in the hell does the event that may finally benefit the players in this area suddenly have to get ruined when it was a fine way to run the event before?
I feel really disappointed today, too. I live near a big city that has a river that I heard got a ton of dratini spawns yesterday. I planned on making the trip out there today, but now they're gone. The water spawns that are here are kind of interesting, but nothing really good. The one true water spawn I'd like to see is totodile, but I haven't seen any of those, and I'm not willing to travel as far to get those as the mega dratinis of yesterday. Having the dratini taken away before I got to them is such a letdown.
It's the same with the chansey event, I'd rather not have op mons overloading spawns in my area. Who wants all their local enemy teams to have full rosters of dragonites and blisseys that took no hard grinding? Free dragonites seem great but really do hurt the game.
A slight increase would be great in addition to spawning outside of their biome. Just enough to spice up the event.
Lol I don't think anyone here would care if the gyms already loaded with Dragonites had more of them. They are poor defenders so I have no idea how that would make gyms OP. Hell it would make them easier to be completely honest. I do agree that there were obviously more spawning than seemed sensible in certain places but now there are less than would normally spawn. And why was that OK for the Chansey event but no bueno for this one? They were lousy with Chanseys that take a meager 50 candies to evolve. That is a game changer. Even with the broken overspawn they had going on it would have no real change other than slightly increased CP levels maybe and the poor fools that had trouble with attack crews because they lacked Dragons would have more to work with.
I meant having multiple dragonites for attacking, not defending. It would have a large impact on my local gyms at least. Potions/stops are hard to come by and a few dragonites per player would ruin the difficulty. Probably wouldn't impact more competitive areas as much where players already have top notch mons though.
The abundance of chanseys during the other event have most likely destroyed the gym scene with boredom in some areas judging from the scanner pics that were posted. I wouldn't waste my time attacking blissey gyms for 10 coins. Not worth a dime(literally).
I believe you if you say it would effect your gym scene significantly. However "ruin the difficulty" seems a little excessive since very few gym makeups even those with tons of Blisseys are very daunting to any good account. If the lack of a few attacking Dragonites keeps gyms stagnant that honestly sounds more broken than the alternative tbh. And really, if it's not a freak area where Dratini were already stupid rare nobody was getting a bunch of Dragonites anyway. The places that were overloaded with them seemed to be the same places where even lazy players already had tons of them.
Either way Dratini are now very common in eggs so prepare for everything to go to hell in a hand basket in about a month anyway.
How does anyone know it was a "bug?" They don't. That's just a theory. Maybe Niantic increased Dratini spawns for a day just to get people out playing. Maybe it was an unannounced bonus. Somebody said it must be a bug because "the announcement clearly said an increase in water-type pokemon, and Dratinis are dragon-type." Well, so what? The Valentine's day announcement clearly said an increase in pink pokemon, yet we also got Porygons, which are red & blue. The Halloween announcement said an increase in spooky pokemon like Gastly and Drowzee, yet we got a million Cubones & Meowths. Niantic can do what they want, and they don't always announce it. Nearly every event has had features that were unanounced.
The day the Christmas Pikachus came out, I went out to find one, and ended up catching two wild Laprases within 15 minutes, after previously only seeing one ever. Coincidence? Maybe, but it got me out there playing more than just the Pikachus would have (I never did see another Lapras during that event).
People should stop thinking they know everything and just go out an play. Also, stop feeling so entitled just because someone else caught something that you didn't get (speaking generally here, not necessarily to the OP). I didn't get any extra Dratinis, and I went to several locations in my water biome area looking for whatever I could find. Am I bitter? No, maybe someday I'll get lucky with something else, like I was with the two Laprases.
I'm a bit gutted to have missed out on the chance to get a few Dratinis as well, but realistically I'm glad they cut the volume of spawns. A whole week of excess Dratinis (and hence, Dragonites) wouldn't be good for the game. Dragonite isn't a Pokemon everyone should have loads of. That they're more common in eggs now is a nice compromise. Get out there and get hatching! :)
