I just caught my first Dragonite but..
I was really nervous because I had only caught 2 dratinis by this morning but I used pinap berries instead of razzp berries because of its low CP so..
Would you have done the same? Lol
And Yeah after 12 ulttaballs I caught him and got my 20 dratiny candies ;)

If it was my first, I would have wanted to do everything I could to make sure to catch the thing, so I personally would have razzed him.
A fully evolved Dragonite represents 125 Dratini candies. Yeah, I get that he was low cp and might not be of any use, but I'd still sacrifice the extra 10 candies to get him into the 'dex. Especially knowing that I've gone after 5 in the wild, 4 of which fled.
Yes, this is are my thoughts too, probably because I haven't been lucky at all with rare mon catches (except with Snorlax), I have seen 3 Dragonites in the wild, all of them fled me, so if I see another one I will use razz for sure, with my luck I will lost him too for sure. The 3 Dragonites I have are all evolved from Dratini hatches and one from a wild Dragonair with high IV's.
I almost lost a 90 CP Flaafy using Pinap berry, it took me 4 ultra balls to get him! I think it is crazy.
I don't understand why catch rates sometimes give me that hard times but anytime I see I mon I really want I can't stop thinking he will go away...Just because of that I trow ultra balls at any mon I want, even at 10cp Dratinis just for the fear I might lose the candies.
I prefer to use slick when attacking Gyms over Zen head butt. if the attacking mechanics pan out to be even remotely similar to those of the current Jim system when PVP is released, I suspect I will continue to prefer lick overs and headbutt. Yeah Lick is preferable on attack for me too. I just think of Snorly as a defensive mon, but seem to get Lick whenever I find or hatch one. Will definitely have this guy in and around my attacking line-up though so of course I'm happy with the catch, especially given he's level 30 :-) Decent IV too, 69-80%.

It was a glorious day, just 3 weeks after starting the game, when my one and only wild dragonite appeared.... I had no berries, almost ran out of pokeballs.... and my last red ball finally caught her.
Would I have used a pinap berry? Not a chance! Haven't seen one since, and although her IVs aren't great (5/12/0, 38%) she's an awesome fighter with DB/DC.
You can catch or hatch more dratini, but may never see another dragonite!
