What's wrong with Gyms and Cp?
I was just wondering whats wrong with it the current gym system and Cp calculations

It's a bit more complex than that. Everyone has high CP mons wether they are called Dragonite or Gyarados. So gym placement is not a problem.
People usually complain about low diversity in gyms. Always the same 6-7 mons out of a pokedex of 251 (minus legendaries).
Also makes gyms weak. Since the most common high CP Pokemon in gyms have double weakness and are really quick to beat. Snorlax and Blissey are the only exception.
Finally Pokemon with awesome defensive characteristics stay out of gyms because of their low CP.
All of the above is basically due to the CP formula, which primes attack. Making good defensive Pokemon low CP and putting Pokemon with bad defensive stats (mostly good attackers) on the top of gyms
There are pokemon that are far superior as defenders that we just don't see in gyms because their CP is too low. I am looking at you Lapras.
Alternatively, we have some mons that can be walked all over by any number of mons half their CP that keep getting put in gyms simply because they can get protected by a stronger defender, and are placed there simply to get coins. Sorry Rhydon, you lead this list.
This is the general reason that is given.
However, I have a slightly different view in that the way it is currently with CP being king, is that we get gyms that can be attacked by a player of any level (well, over 20 at least) and therefore does not lock anyone out of the gym scene - so it could be said it is a good thing, especially with more and more players getting closer and closer to max levels. We don't want to discourage new players from trying to join in...do we?
If gyms were indeed filled with mons that are harder to take down, we would have even more gym stagnation than we do now.
I guess it is a double edged sword.
The thing is while Lapras doesn't suffer a double weakness it's not exactly hard to kill.
When I first started playing I used a WG/HP Vaperon to beat Lapras (old stats) that were higher than me.
And that was without dodging. Vaperon's DPS was simply more than double (remember double Lapras HPs) when you added in the Cooldown on Defense.
Same thing is true of other Tier3 Defenders that people think of as "good"
This is especially true since the Power Move Upgrade. Since players dodge, and defenders dont.
The reason CP is the system, is because CP is reflective of the Pokemon's Base Stats which are reflective of the pokemon in the original games. Some pokemon are simply stronger than others. Always have been always will be.
They could Tweak CP to include a value based on the moves. But honestly, that wouldn't do much.
The problem with CP is that it makes the meta-game revolve around it...yes, CP is a reflection of the pokemon's capabilities, but it arbitrarily weigths the ATK stat much higher than DEF and STA, which are much more important on defense than atk is.
In the end, the problem goes beyond CP, as no matter what attackers always have an unfair advantage over the defender (Dodging, multiple attackers, choosing the match-up). In the end there's no really a way to truly defend a gym, but CP makes it so that on top of that, you always face the same "defenders" just because of CP.
The real problem is that the game gets stale. All someone ever needs is a good pair of each of Lapras, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Venusaur, and Machamp. That't it. They won't need anything else. Even though there are 200+ Pokemon species and 18 types in the game, only the above matter.
Any multiplayer game with a metagame that cannot keep evolving is going to get boring. If there are possibilities of innovating and constantly next-levelling other players, then the game will stay fresh over a long period of time.
There needs to be a one species per gym rule!
This would address the diversity problem, and may cut down some of the shaving (no incentive, if you can't put your own high-CP mon in there). And contrary to what was written elsewhere, this would actually make it easier then the current setup for newer players to participate, because they wouldn't be looking at a wall of 2700+ vapes (followed by Gary/Rhy/D9 with the occasional Blissey or Snorlax thrown in) - as a side benefit, would reward learning what moves counter what (not for the high-level players, they would just blow through the gym with their DB/DC's).
I suppose some might consider this an arbitrary solution, but come on, the whole game is arbitrary!
Short of scraping the entire current gym system (and maybe they will?), I think this would be the easiest to implement and have a nice effect on the gym meta.
Thinking of this more, wouldn't the 1 species per gym rule simply just change the top 6 or 7 to the top 9 CP now?
If CP is used to still rank defenders, everyone would now be just forced to use the top 9 CP mons to try to be higher in the gym to prevent gym shavers as well.
Having your Slowbro at the bottom of a gym does you no good and if anything, locks people out of gyms even more since most people don't want to be the 10th mon.
I don't think simply having 1 species will fix the gym diversity issue at all since you're changing top 7 to top 9 instead.
Some mons were also never supposed to be as powerful as others so plenty of mons should probably not be great as defenders.
They do need to balance the rewards for both attacking and defending and it'd be nice for other ways to simply earn coins (still keep max of 100 a day) so if you're locked out in your own team area, you can still earn dust/coins.
When prestige was +500/-1000, gyms barely got past level 3 so changing it will make gyms impossible to keep and people will start clearing a few gyms and put a pidgey after since it'll fall super fast.
