Banning users from this forum
Hi fellow trainers, as some of you may have noticed a rather loudmouthed new user has been banned from this forum just yesterday.
I have to admit I am a bit sorry to hear he was banned as I believe he was a poor fool just looking for attention and love rather than a bad guy. He appeared more civilised in other threads than the one I have in mind (and which was probably the main reason for the ban), although admittedly always rather loudmouthed. Still, he might have come around eventually.
Maybe there should exist a milder sanction, e.g. a two week ban, prior to banning a player for good. You have to keep out incurable trolls, of course, but some controversy and dissenting opinions are a good thing for a forum in my book. I for one appreciated that the guy had a different opinion and that he challenged mine. Certainly more interesting than the umpteenth question "... dilemma" or "is my ...worth any dust" or "must my life now end because I evolved a ... with ... as its moveset" - I have become a bit weary of those by now. I just wish the guy hadn't masked his insecurity with this "homie from the hood" slang.

Hm, I do not think a trainer's level says anything about his qualities in this particular game. If you grind hard enough, your level goes up. There is no skill involved in pogo. So I for one would not subscribe to the opinion that someone with a high level is necessarily great at the game, that he has any worthwhile knowledge about the game or any authority derived therefrom.
The only thing that is for certain is that such a person spent a lot of time with the game. But then again, some people spend a whole life without becoming great in it or developing any knowledge about it...
Lol not going to go into the life discussion w/ anyone here. That is a another topic entirely. But doubtful being level 39 gives you a lot of field knowledge and perspective. I'm not sure if that knowledge was best used here or a local FB or Reddit group w/ spawn points and regional knowledge. Idk but are you a GP administrator seeking advice on how to deal w/ situations like this if there were to ever occur again?
Wow. Banned for what? I thought he was pretty entertaining and knowleable. I didn't see anything outright offensive from him. Some of these people here are way to frigging sensitive.
Btw, I think the OP's comment "homie from the hood slang" can be viewed much more offensive than calling someone here a nerd.
No doubt some may have a problem with me joining this conversation but...
Hypothetically speaking, if GP deemed someone did repeatedly use offensive language, and was vulgar and antisocial over an extended period of time - I don't mean getting emotional once and letting something slip, more than just calling somone a nerd (which to some is not even offensive, but in fact a compliment), but sustained profanity and abuse of members, and possibly attempted intimidation with threats - would you think that GP would be justified in removing that from their forums?

Justified yes, I think, but I wonder whether it is the only and best way to deal with such a person.
No doubt the guy has invested a great deal of time in this game. If he did not present all of his opinions as irrefutable facts (b/c he has played more and therefore knows more than any other person who ever walked the face of this earth) and did not sneer on anyone with a different opinion, I for one would be interested to listen to what he has to say.
So for me the question is this: how could you get such a guy to possibly become civilized again? I for one doubt an admin telling a guy with low self-esteem publicly off might be a promising way to make him see the errors of his ways. So if the next step is a permanent ban already, this is most probably what it will always amount to.
People can be mean and offensive in ways beside just straight up cussing or using offensive words. Many of you gives a lot of negative sarcastic remarks and for non-native English speakers, maybe they don't really understand the extend of your sarcasm and condescending remarks. No one likes to be accused of things they didn't say and/or do.
I guess people just need to try to be more sensitive in things they say. Or be less sensitive to others' replies.
Based off the above comments it was GonGetThisWork who had been banned. I see his last thread is inaccessible now. Why'd he get banned? Very high level player which proves his infatuation with PoGo and he was very outspoken which I like a lot in people. Also, "homie from the hood slang" depending no on how people take it is very much derogatory. Your whole post seems a tad bias
It'd be nice in addition to bans, we can also simply ignore users.
I'm glad he was banned actually due to excessive vulgar offensive language and near every comment seemed like the typical Internet user hiding behind a screen spewing obscenities and disagreements laced with tongue in cheek insults.
In any discussion, it's just unnecessary and seemed to be a guy looking for attention.
I'm sure plenty of kids read this forum as well and it's unnecessary to use foul language in near every posts since my kids read what's on my screen and it'd be nice if I can also simply ignore people who spew swear or racist comments all day.
As someone else mentioned, high level means nothing in this game as it takes very little actual skill.
I also didn't think he added much and did more harm since any comments were annoying to read.
It's not even a point of feelings hurt since this is a public forum and I don't think that many people are actually that thinned skin, but it's just the constant swear/racist/foul language laced posts he had which made me think he was a child/young adult you see spewing out swear words IRL every time they talk (think about the children!) :).
I pictured him as a Gyarados, aka atrocious pokemon:), with high level as gya's high cp, with gya's insecurities: high lvl and field experience but with average understanding of theoretical aspects, just like pre gen 2 Gya, only with bite. I hoped that while biting left and right and creating some twisters, will learn some theoretical info ( dragon tail from gen 2) and unleash some info pumps from time to time. Or maybe becoming a friendly high lvl like Dragonite, a generalist valuable user, with above medium knowlegde (STAB, no supper effective on most of the topics).
He called me fool, I did not liked it, but also noticed his good advices on team play.
Having said that, I do not wish for perma ban and I subscribe to OP that somehow he might change and benefit on personal lvl.
P.s. I was amused by his oral wording and saw it as an exercise with a different english than the formal one I'm used to.
TL;DR I don't wish full ban for him.

Golon: Never spoke to you, you made your way in a conversation and addressed me the other day; my stance is the same, if you gon open your mouth to someone you don't know, prepare for smoke. That's what you got, and didn't like it. I name-called, but the prejudice reference you made above, that's not the first, cause you came out your face with that 'homie from the hood' stuff before. Nobody you mentioned had anything to do with your ban. Typically this board is leniant but 90% of your posts are defamatory and/or antagonistic. You were warned and did not listen. The few users who are defending you did not see the comments that were deleted the past week. This is a Q&A board. Posts need to be helpful and positive, it's that simple. So again, chill.

I warned you yesterday, and you replied with a rude comment as you do with everyone. I was giving you a chance, just like today.
He nor anyone was ever banned I don't think for speaking their mind in a constructive way.
It was his vulgar and swear word laced posts which had me wanting to just ignore all his posts since my kids sometimes sees my screen...I don't know what's up with the desire to sound like a gangsta vibe.
Maybe that's just how he rolls and how he speaks in real life/culture, but again, eventually maybe Gamepress can just allow us to ignore people of our choosing.
That and many of his posts seemed more to try to aggravate many other users with insults was why he probably got banned for a short time.
I am surprised and saddened that he was banned. Although I see back. I disagreed with his stance on shaving I would rather have different perspectives on the subject especially from a trainer who was shaving.
Perhaps it will be players like him that finally push Niantic to change the game so that cheats get banned! After all it seems that he was a legit player who just could not stand playing on a game that is hopelessly disadvantaging legit players. In the end all that will be left on this game will be the gormless and the cheats.
Personally I feel sorry for him although I would have liked to see him have more strength to resist fighting fire with fire.

I know "shaving" is frowned upon, but I'm so proud of it because it's my way of sending spoofers back their unearned mon. See I have stable gyms in Jersey where Valor has a strong presence and a group of guys that oversee gyms in a way I've never seen. Quite the protectors, but here in NYC you could not imagine the gym scene.
I live in Manhattan, can't keep a gym for an hour here on most days, it's terrible. Yes, I'm Level 39, but sadly never collected on 10 gyms till Level 37. I've been battling since Level 30. That's a struggle most people don't know. I watch the gyms so much in my area, and for so many levels of playing in them, I pretty much know who spoofs from standing there. I've played in 90 degree weather, and 30 degree weather, trust me I know who's honest and who is not. My stance on shaving in my manner, won't change. To shave an honest player out, that's a topic I understand. Anyway, I live in whatvis probably the most spoofed location in all of Pokémon GO. Hope you understand my battles, my struggles with the gyms.
Problem I see is if a spoofer put themselves in a level 10 tower, it won't be near the bottom...
I saw a new spoofer in my area as well and at or near the top of every level 10 gym in the area...It's not possible to kick them out unless you tore the whole gym down so there would be a lot of "innocent" players getting kicked out when you shave for yourself...
Not true in terms of new spoofers with low level mon who are desperate to get in, so I see them all the time shaving. So not disagreeing w you, just giving you the urban truth.
See in your area, you are correct, that is the case there and in rural areas, but here, it's every level spoofer, from Level 15 on up.
I do not have to defend the decision to ban users, but I will since it's become a hot topic for some reason.
We work hard to keep the q&a a healthy place. When a user constantly swears, belittles, mocks, threatens, uses slurs, make posts simply to antagonize other users on a daily basis something has to be done. It has nothing to do with anyone's point of view or opinion, it is nothing personal. It's simply for the good of the community. To those who think it is harsh, they do not read every single post. It was justified, period.
We cannot allow harassment. Some that are harassed on forums don't mind, others do. It's not fair for those that are offended to put up with it. They deserve to be on this site and post in peace.
Imposing smaller punishments makes things more complicated. Just using common decency solves the problem in the first place.

I must have upset someone along the way, or my name would not be singled out as it has been.
For that reason, I guess I will take this as a warning to me as much as anyone else.
If I have upset anyone it was never my intentions...but intentions don't stop it from happening.
I personally am fairly thick skinned - when people thorw sh#* at you, only so much can stick before it just starts sliding off. I have been around long enough, and taken enough over the years, that it stopped sticking a long time ago.
With all that said, I can only work on improving myself, and no one else...so I will attempt to do that.
