Do you see a difference when battling in a gym

Do you see a difference between high IV and low IV mons in a gym during battle? How can you tell?

I doubt someone could notice this.
The difference of a 0% IV and a 100% IV in battle is nothing more than 5% in overall damage and bulkyness.

The higher base stats, the less difference +15/+15/+15 will make.

And how many rlly get 0% IV pokemons?
Comparing 0% to 100% is ridiculous.

In the wild, probability theory predicts there will be just as many as get 100% IVs.

This video has some music that you may want to mute but this is exactly what you need. You see virtually no difference.

That's a really interesting video. I guess we should panic less about suboptimal IV's. He's comparing a Snorlax with great IV's to a Snorlax with terrible IV's. Usually we're comparing like 82% to 89% - surely the difference there is close to nonexistent if this video is anything to go by.

Compare a Snorlax to one a level above it in a similar video, and you will see about the same difference between them. So by your logic, surely one shouldn't ever power up any Snorlax.

These kinds of videos can be very misleading for many reasons. We don't know the distribution of the IVs; we don't see the effect of level; we don't know the player's skill level (we really don't even know if the same person is playing in all the side-by-side videos); we don't know if what we see holds true for all other defending mons; we don't know if the results hold true for other species of attackers; we don't know if the videos were cherry-picked and that other attempts produced different results; etc.

I've seen similar videos "comparing" different movesets of the same mon, with similar visual results. Does this mean movesets don't matter?

I think almost all all of us are way too focused on IVs. It matters quite a bit for high CP / gym placement, but that's really it.

I hear people write things like "useless Pokémon with only 70% IV"....

That's not true: the attack IV affects how much damage a mon's attack does; the defense IV affects how much damage a mon will receive from each attack; the stamina IV will affect how many hit points a mon gets (which along with the defense IV affects how long a mon can fight without fainting). You can argue how great these effects are, but they exist. I'v been in plenty of battles where my attacking mon just barely won; a lesser IV one might not have. Small differences can have big results.

Do you "see" a difference between a level 30 attacker and an otherwise identical level 28 attacker in a gym during a battle? I doubt it, but there is a difference. Does that mean you shouldn't power up a level 28 attacker? Many here argue you shouldn't. I disagree. I can't see atoms either; but they sure are powerful.
