Legacy Raichu

I only just realized that Raichu has been nerfed in terms of the moves and can no longer learn Thunder Shock (quick move) & Thunder (charge move).

Current optimum consists of Spark and Wild Charge both inferior to the legacy moves in every way (DPS, EPS, cooldown).

Does this make legacy Raichu worth powering up? When trading kicks in he might be worth something, am I right?

I'm personally thrilled about this cause I dislike Jolteon, he's just way too common and obvious. I got no electric pokemon powered up (Jolteon is a prestiger for me) and I was thinking to myself "Meh, I'll just wait for my Zapdos to have a decent electric type" but this legacy Raichu now seems attractive to me :D
What do you think?

I do have 1 (with a Christmas hat - nice trophy) and I sometimes use him against Gyarados. Still need to dodge a lot but Jolteon is a better option tbh. I think it's more fun to play with Raichu but he's less efficient than Jolteon.

Mine is above 1600 cp (91% IV) and I can power him up to 1800-1850.
He's obviously a little worse than Jolteon but my bet is he could still cut through 3 Gyaradoses in a row sitting at 3000 CP, am I right?

Lol, no. Probably two, but definitely not 3. Even my 2.3k Jolteon has trouble going through 3 (unless you dodge every bite and the Gyarados doesn't have HP which absolutely wrecks jolteon now even when dodged)

You can't make judgement on charge moves only by DPS. Now Thunder becomes the second worst electric charge move and Wild Charge is the best. Energy per full bar charge of Wild Charge = 90/50*100=180, while Thunder is only 100. Two Wild Charge takes 5.2 sec and Thunder takes 2.4 sec. The 2.8 sec difference surely cannot catch up the 80 damage difference.

This is how I rank all electric charge moves:
1.Wild Charge
2.Zap Cannon
3/4.Discharge/Thunderbolt
5.Thunder
6.Thunder Punch

Thunder is one-bar charge move but Wild Charge is two-bar. So you can only do one Thunder but two Wild Charge with full bar.

The funny thing about PMG is that you are fighting a stupid AI.

If the Gyrados you are fighting is a HydroPump based Gyrados. You can often hold off on your Full Bar Thunder until it can 1 shot the Gyrados without it firing Hydro Pump.

You can't do this with Wild Charge.

Downside to this: you are wasting energy and your Raichu moves to the next pokemon with 0.
Upside to this: you take less damage and use less potions since Hydropump never fired.

Same idea people use with Solar Beams and Rhydons. Don't fire it off bat if you are swapping out anyway

I beg to disagree. While Spark is slightly slower and has slightly lower EPS, it also has slightly higher DPS than Thunder Shock. Overall, the two quick moves are pretty even.

With the charge moves this is different. Thunder only deals 100 damage from a full bar. Wild Charge deals 90 from half a bar. In effect, this is very nearly equal to having a second Thunder-bar. It makes Raichu a much, much better attacker.

I brought up a Raichu with Thunder and was disappointed with its performance. I barely ever used it, sticking to my Jolteon. But my new Spark / Wild Charge Raichu can take out one of the old Gyarados before he even has a chance of loosing his first charge attack. It is a great attacker.

Raichu has been my favorite pokemon since I was a little kid so I am partial keep that in mind.

I grinded my butt off to get a Thunder shock/Thunder raichu for months, in fact I evolved 32 raichu before I got Thunder. I wasnt even picky when it came to quick moves and it still took 32 tries to get thunder. Including sadly a 15a/15d/14s pikachu that became Thunder punch raichu :/ I ended up with a 15a/15d/11s raichu and he's maxed for my level at 1730 and he easily takes down any Gyarados I see and any Vaporeon within 1000cp of him. Thunders cool down had been cut so it is such an effective move IMO if you have a high iv raichu with it you're crazy not to invest.

Spark/Wild Charge is the highest damage dealing moveset. I'd say that Thunder Shock/Thunder is still the second best when you consider the need for dodging.

Wait until rotom comes out then... raichu has never been a valuable option in the main game series, I don't expect that to change in Go, he doesn't have the stats for it.
