Personal Attacker Tier List

Hello, GamePress community! Can't wait for GP to update the Attacker Tier List? Let's make ours!

Below is my personal list. Each tier will take a separate reply. There will be altogether five tiers: Tier 1, Tier 1.5, Tier 2, Tier 2.5, and Tier 3.

Explanation on Tiers:
Tier 1 belongs to best generalists who can handle 90%+ cases single-handedly.
Tier 1.5 includes the strongest type specialists, who outperform Tier 1 generalists in their best matchups and outperform Tier 2 generalists in neutral matchups.
Tier 2 includes some strong generalists and type specialists, who can perform at least as well as Tier 1 generalists in their best matchups.
Tier 2.5 includes some other type specialists, who outperform Tier 2 generalists but cannot outperform Tier 1 generalists in their best matchups.
Tier 3 is the honorable mention.

Any comment and input are welcomed!

Tier 1

&Dragonite [Dragon Breath/Dragon Claw; Dragon Tail/Outrage]
Remark: A genuine generalist ready to take down anything. DB/DC allows highly efficient dodging while DT/O offers monstrous damage output.

&Tyranitar [Bite/Stone Edge; Bite/Crunch]
Remark: Another highly reliable generalist, with the powerful STAB Bite and high flexibility. Hard counter to Snorlax and Blissey (expect for Dazzling Gleam one).

&Machamp [Counter/Dynamic Punch; Counter/Close Combat in Tier 1.5]
Remark: With the rise of normal tanks (the FPB and Snorlax) in the gym, a strong fighting type is favored. C/DP Machamp takes down those normal tanks the quickest, saving you a lot of time. You need to dodge well though. Also, Machamp is the super counter to Tyranitar, which is expected to appear in gyms as Dragonite do now.

&Snorlax [Lick/Body Slam; Lick/Hyper Beam]
Remark: With Body Slam buffed and Lick EPS remained, Snorlax remains in Tier 1.

Tyranitar: Could you list some situations under which Crunch would outperform Stone Edge?

Snorlax: I believe a Snorlax with Hyper Beam would be in the same tier as one with Body Slam.

Exeggutor, Espeon, Alakazam, Gengar & future Physic & Ghost types.

Added Hyper Beam Snorlax.
For Tyranitar, it all depends on whether SE or C has super effectiveness against the opponent. In raw DPS they perform pretty much the same.

Which is why Bite/SE is ideal, given the fact that you'll be stuck in cooldowns for 7-8 seconds longer per damage cycle when using Crunch compared with Stone Edge.

Nope Crunch kills Psychic types so quick. Plus Crunch lets you get off an extra shot or two before death. Stone Edge is better overall but no vs Psychic.

i hate lick. I haven't powered up 4 of my lax's because of it.
Bad on offense and defense imo.

Tier 1.5

&Heracross [Counter/Close Combat]

&Flareon [Fire Spin/Overheat]
Remark: FS/O pretty much burns through everything that is weak to fire. Out of all mons that can learn FS/O, Flareon has the highest base ATK stats and serves as the king of fire.

&Espeon [Confusion, Zen Headbutt/Futuresight]
Remark: Espeon is a little bit bulkier than Alakazam, therefore Confusion is more affordable. ZH allows better dodging but it yields lower damage output.

&Alakazam [Psycho Cut/Futuresight]
Remark: You need to dodge with glass cannon like Alakazam, and Confusion just doesn't go with the requirement. Psycho Cut cycle sacrifices 4% DPS but gains higher chance to survive longer.

&Gengar [Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball]
Remark: Extreme glass cannon, but as the DPS king in the meta, Gengar can eat through Psychic/Ghost types in less than ten seconds.

&Exeggutor [Extrasensory, Confusion, Bullet Seed/Solar Beam]
Remark: Combining the overpowered Solar Beam with elite base stats brings you the Grass sweeper Exeggutor.

Confusion/Solar Beam is by far the best moveset for Exeggutor. It's Exeggutor's only attacking moveset worth an A. Extrasensory/Solar Beam is good, but Confusion/Solar Beam is great.

Also Flareon with Ember/Overheat is close enough to Fire Spin/Overheat to be not noticeably different in attacking effectiveness. It's Overheat that is important. Same thing for Espeon with Zen Headbutt/Future Sight in comparison to Confusion/Future Sight.

Tier 2

&Vaporeon [Water Gun/Hydro Pump; Water Gun/Aqua Tail]
Remark: AT is very efficient for dodging (CD < 2 allows perfect dodging), which makes a dancing Vape.

&Rhydon [Mud Slap/Stone Edge; Mud Slap/Earthquake]

&Golem [Rock Throw/Stone Edge]

&Gyarados [Bite, Dragon Tail, Dragon Breath/Hydro Pump; Dragon Tail/Outrage]

&Blissey [Pound/Hyper Beam]
Remark: Highest KD ratio in the meta, a fine choice to solo a level 10 gym.

&Jolteon [Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt]

&Scizor [Bullet Punch/Iron Head; Fury Cutter/X-Scissor]

&Venasaur [Vine Whip/Solar Beam]

&Charizard [Fire Spin/Over Heat]
Remark: Second top FS/O user. Double resistance to Grass makes his effective defense x1.25 higher when dealing against Grass types.

&Kingdra [Dragon Breath/Outrage, Hydro Pump]

I second that. AT is ideal for dodging especially against BS snorlax

Piloswine's damage output is not high enough (much lower than Jynx), but he does have much higher bulk, I'm putting him 0.5 Tier lower.

Are you sure? I havent looked into it directly, but Powder Snow is an Extreme Energy Charger.

You might want to double check the Cycle Damage

Mud Slap/Earthquake is a slightly better attacking moveset for Rhydon than Mud Slap/Stone Edge. It's close enough that I would recommend including both movesets.

With Blissey, Pound/Hyper Beam is two "levels" above Pound/Dazzling Gleam as an attacking moveset. They are not in the least comparable.

For Scizor, any moveset withut Night Slash is an A level moveset.

For Pinsir, I would add Bug Bite//Close Combat and Legacy moveset Fury Cutter/X-Scissor.

For Jynx, I suggest including Confusion/Avalanche.

For Jolteon, Volt Switch/Thunderbolt and Thunder Shock/Discharge are almost as good as Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt, and for some fighting styles might even be preferable.

Vine whip / solar beam Venusaur?? I prefer him over exeggutor.

Tier 2.5

&Jynx [Frost Breath/Avalanche;
Confusion/Avalanche]

&Pilowine [Ice Shard/Avalance]

&Pinsir [Bug Bite/X-Scissor; Fury Cutter/X-Scissor]

&Ampharos [Charge Beam/Zap Cannon]

&Ursaring [Counter/Hyper Beam]

&Typhlosion [Ember/Over Heat]

&Porygon2 [Hidden Power, Charge Beam/Hyper Beam]

Tier 3

&Blastoise [Water Gun/Hydro Pump]

&Meganium [Vine Whip/Solar Beam]

&Donphan [Counter/Earthquake]

&Feraligatr [Water Gun/Hydro Pump]

&Crobat [Air Slash/Sludge Bomb]

&Muk [Poison Jab/Gunk Shot]

&Nidoking/Nidoqueen [Poison Jab/Sludge Wave]

&Vilelume/Victreebel [Razor Leaf/Solar Beam]

&Houndoom [Fire Fang, Snarl/Foul Play]

&Arcanine [Fire Fang/Fire Blast]

&Umbreon [Snarl/Foul Play]

&Lapras [Frost Breath/Ice Beam]

&Cloyster [Frosh Breath/Avalanche]

&Tauros [Tackle/Earthquake]

&Starmie/Omastar [Water Gun/Hydro Pump]

Attacker's tier list it's pointless, when attacking you can choose your matchup, so 90% of the time it's only useful for generic attackers, What I'd like to see is a best performing attacker (not highest DPS) for each type. What I mean by this is... the pokemon that would deal the most damage of each particular type before fainting, not just which one has the highest DPS, because the pokemon with the highest DPS migth not be the one durable enough and you are probably better off selecting one that's more bulky over the one that has higher DPS (Ex. Starmie vs vaporeon)

Well clearly, this list is not solely based on DPS, otherwise, Gengar will be on the top! I've taken into battle performance into consideration.

Yes, I know it's only DPS, but whenever I see a "mixed attacker" (like exeggutor with C/SB) in there, it makes my head hurth. I get that's the highest damage output in general, but in most situations you are gonna have better results using 2 moves of the same type, as it's gonna get the SE bonus. Yes I know in some cases a "generic" attacker deals more damage than one with supereffective bonus, but in most cases you want to pick an attacker that:
a) Has a high attack stat
b) Has a good moveset
c) Gets STAB bonus
d) Deals super effective damage to the defender
e) Has some bulk so it will KO more opponents before fainting.

but whenever I see a "mixed attacker" (like exeggutor with C/SB) in there, it makes my head hurth.

Which is exactly what it does to defending mons' heads. Mixed it may be, but it doesn't need SE; the STAB amplification of Confusion's power is extremely potent.

i have something like that...although the variable input is CP and also opponents def. I use it to find prestigers. :D

I really like your list, I was just wondering today about C/FS Espeon compared to Psycut/FS Alakazam.

What is missing: Charizard, Arcanine, Venusaur, Omastar. Most of them would be in Tier 2.5 I guess, but I would actually see them on par with Pinsir and Jynx for example.

Missing Movesets: Rhydon MS/EQ; Scizor FC/X

Thanks for the support! I just made some changes accordingly.
