If CP was no longer the determining factor of gyms which Pokemon would shine w/ high Def stats?

Steelix, Cloyster, and Omastar could be interesting imo. Any others?

If HP was kept doubled for defenders, high stamina mon would still be much more prevalent than high defense ones.

I think we'd see even more Blissey than we do now if CP was taken away. :/

We could see more Slowbro, Slowking, Poliwrath, Lapras, etc... All the actually good defenders that aren't seen because of low CP.

Honestly though those are not much better defenders than Vaperon. In fact, I'm not sure any of them are better defenders than an Aqua Tail Vaperon.

Sure Confusion hits harder, but I can dodge it. Those fast firing AT are more annoying than any charge move Slowbro/King has.

Poliwrath with Bubble HP might be more damage than Vaperon with Water Gun/HP But it has less hps and is an even bigger Exeggutor target.

Lapras might be more annoying because there arent many pokemon that have 2 advantages over it like there are for Vaperon (Grass takes NE and does SE)
but there are a couple now Poliwrath for example.

The biggest issue isn't CP.

The root issue is that Vaperon is probably the 3rd best defender (snorlax/blissey) and super common.

Honestly, I still don't see a good option to replace cp. Whatever the determinants are, it has to be possible to boil them all down to a single comparable value so the Pokemon can be ranked. First come first served is an option, but then we have to be ready to see 10cp Pidgeys on top of gyms.

Level? So do you want to see a level 10 gym full of high level Magikarps? Alternatively CP is already good, despite being not fair.

There's a reason why attack is given more emphasis than Def and Stamina in the CP formula. Although it seems logical that these mons would be placed higher, in retrospect, everyone else's mons would also be higher and we would see only them in the gyms. So it may seem like Niantic screwed up here, but I think they made the right decision.
