I just sniped a level-10 gym. What an a-hole, right?

I was walking by a park last night and saw that a friendly level-9 gym in that park was being prestiged. I then waited for a while and sniped the spot right when it became opened.

The catch? I sniped it from a spoofer.

The park was wide open, and I was standing right on top of the gym looking around in every direction. Nobody else was there. I even tried to call out just in case someone decided to play PoGo in a bush - still no response.

Suffice to say that was highly gratifying, totally made my day.

An aside: the spoofer was prestiging by 150 prestige a pop - an indication of poor PoGo knowledge. I wonder how many peole out there are like this, and whether their lack of knowledge about optimal gameplay contributes to their behaviors.

Haha, that's awesome! Not surprising about the skill level, it equates to the many questions in this forum when somebody asks if their 98IV Dragonite with SW/O is worth powering up since it didn't get DT. (Yes, I understand there are some biomes Dratini are way more common than my own). But, come'on man!

ugh ... 150 per? That's tragic.

They really do need some sort of in game tutorial or message recommending players use pokemon that are smaller against friendly gyms. And they need to fix it so that the prestige calculation is separate for each defeated pokemon based on just the CP of your team members that helped defeat that pokemon, not the highest CP in your entire unused team.

Aside from the long lists of type advantages, those are the two game mechanics that I need to remind others about.

That is the only situation I would be happy to say 'I love ya work' in regards to a snipe.

Nice one.

They probably only get 150 per win because they only have 3k+ mons in their bag.

And at least they don't use the trick to kick out the bottom mon and put their mon in.
I have witnessed both kind of those players in my area, and I must say I'd rather play with this kind of players than those who kick others out.

before you judge those people make sure youve actually seen them use both accounts. i have a friend that plays as actively as me but is on a different team, so we help eachother out every once in a while ;)

This is no better than alt-accounting IMO...same result with an excuse to justify bad sportsmanship and bad behavior. Both should be banned if Niantic notices a pattern...

Niantic can also simply change a mon getting kicked out at < 40k and put back in at > 50k and this behavior should cease...

idk, I wasn't there since the beginning. So it was possible that the spoofer had used an alternate account to drop the gym from lv 10 to 9. Gym prestige was already at 49,xxx when I reached the park.

Did the same thing last night, only it was a two-fer: it was a spoofer who had just knocked out my 10-slot 2600 Exeggutor with an second account and was prestiging immediately afterwards to put his own mon in. Luckily, I had just gotten back a 2800 Dragonite who had been in another gym for two months and had powered him up past 3000. As soon as he got it back up to 50,000, I shoved it into the top slot.

It felt soooo good. I can only hope he realized the guy he kicked out was the same guy who took it right back...

Funny how just yesterday I was coming up to a gym to help a friend prestige and put a mon in, and when we saw the gym was getting prestiged, I straight up said: "If there's nobody around, you'll just have to snipe the spot. :D". There was actually someone, so we didn't do it (we don't do d*** moves).

Anyway, all this to say: kuddos to you! I wouldn't have any remorse from taking advantage of a spoofer's work either.

I wonder whether the spoofer might have used a bot. In this case neither time nor potions would be a real issue for him. A lazily programmed bot might not be able to select the best prestiging options, going just for a primitive 150 points per pop strategy.

Always happy of seeing spoofers being sniped.
Not fun if you also snipe on real players, though
