Evolve now or 'save your candy'
I am holding on my candy.
How are you guys respond to the rumor 'save your candy'?

So I have about 2k pidgey candy, 500 weedle, 200 caterpie.
Once I hit 3k pidgey, 1k weedle, 500 caterpie (or something like that), I will use up:
1k pidgey, 500 weedle, and 300 caterpie
so that I still have a good amount of candies left in case an event is released in the near future.
I've heard the possible dates for events are: St. Patty's day and Easter. I don't know if the rest of the world celebrates either of those days lol but that's just what i've heard. I would bank on something happening around Easter if I were to guess (4/16), we were just given a lot of new pokemon and therefore I would think that the closer holiday, St. Patty's day, wouldn't be necessary.
I'm not taking it seriously at all, really. I don't think this means anything more than a Niantic employee spreading a friendly message about making us think wisely about how we use our resources. I didn't plan on mass evolving until this possible Easter event but other evolutions are happening with me. That's just me
I think this comes down to 2 things: Are you low on mon space? Do you need the xp right now? If the answer to those questions is yes then evolve now, if not why rush at all? I am at 750 mon space, gonna need like 400 evolutions or so to be "full", I have probably 250 at this point, so I have no rush at all, xp won't make a difference for me because I am half level 35.
If I was level 29 close to 30 for example or had 350/350 mon every day I would probably do a lucky egg at this moment even when they said save your candies. But that is not my case.
My advice is, if you can hold to them, why not do it? For me there is absolutely no difference between doing a lucky egg today or doing 4/5 lucky eggs in 3 weeks or a month, won't change anything at all.
Although I seriously doubt this would ever happen, one thing niantic could do to liven up the game is 50 percent reduction in required candies and star dust to evolve/power up your mons for a one week event. This would encourage those of us who really want to spend resources on cool outlying/marginally useful Pokémon like hitmonlee, slowking, etc but can't justify the expense.
Of course this would probably never happen, it's a nice enough idea for me to hold out. We would certainly hang on every word niantic says from here on out and they probably have enough anxiety about this already :)
This is why I'm waiting a month to evolve a couple guys. I just saved up enough for a new Zam and my first Machamp. But I don't immediately need them and I'll use all my candies evolving them, so nothing left for power up. To me, it's worth it to wait until Easter is announced, just in case they do something like this (and maybe I'll get a better IV to evolve in the meantime).
I'm going to do a mass evolve soon with Pidgeys/Rats/Sentrets etc. I have so many candies that the actual mon is the limiting factor not the candies.
But when it comes to big evolutions (Tyranitar, Fortress, Slowking, BellAwesome, another Blissey, Gen 2 starters - have enough candies to evolve all 3 of them) and powering my big guys like Snorlax etc. I'm saving my candies.
No idea if anything is actually coming but I have enough attackers and defenders now that I'm pretty set. I will keep doing mass evolutions but saving my candies for the "good" guys.
I did a mass evolve on Sunday. I have enough others to do 1 more mass evolve right now. I just spent 400K in dust, along with the candies, powering up 8 mons from lower levels to at least level 33 this morning.
I figure I have at least a month until anything new happens, and it would be foolish to have those mons that are useful right now just sitting there because of some rumor. I'll recoup that 400K in dust and all those candies in the month that you are holding yours, and I'll collect 10 gyms a day while I'm at it.
