Power up a Snorlax or wait?

EDIT: I powered up the 1484 CP Snorlax, he is now a very satisfying 2576 CP! Thanks all for your help.

Hi all, thanks for reading my question and offering advice. I've been extremely lucky and had Snorlax spawn for me about once every two weeks very close to my house, so I finally have a decent amount of candy and can consider powering up a Snorlax. I am not sure if it's best to power one up for offense or defense, or power one up for both? Can anyone please recommend if I should power one of these 5 up or just wait for better? I am level 28.

1978 CP - 64% IV Lick, Body Slam (best one to power up for both offense and defense?)
1887 CP - 37% IV Zen Headbutt, Body Slam
1824 CP - 73% Lick, Hyper Beam (best one to power for offense?)
1716 CP: - 76% Zen Headbutt, Body Slam (best one to power for defense?)
1484 CP: 88% Zen Headbutt, Hyper Beam

Since I can really only afford the dust for one, would it be best to power up the 1978 CP with Lick/Body Slam? That moveset has an A for attacking and a B for defending so it could be a good "hybrid" option until I get the dust to power up one better at defending?

Do you need another attacker? Snorlax is a top tier defender but there are much better attackers in my opinion.

I'd go with the 1716 if you have the candy. The 1484 is simply too low, you'll run out of candy at some point. The 1716 is good all around, with the best defensive move set. I'd want a Snorlax for defense to place high in gyms and deter attackers. The 1978 will still be strong enough to attack with despite not powering up. I'd keep all three of the 1800+ ones while powering the 1716. I'd drop the 1484 for 2 candies during the event unless you legitimately have loads of candies to power it up someday. Although I'm probably being a hypocrite, I had 4 Snorlax, dropped the 42 and 131 but kept the 1409 and 1696 thus far. 1409 is 91% IV Lick/Body Slam, 1696 is low IV with ZH/EQ. I don't know if it's because I don't have a good one above the 1409, but I can't make myself transfer it for double candy.

I am at 92 candy right now, and I'm not really planning to power up any snorlax past trainer level 29/pokemon level 30.5 as I feel that is the most efficient use of my stardust per pokemon. Because of the event. should I transfer all my snorlax that are below 1000 CP? When I'm attacking, isn't prestige just figured based on how many pokemon you beat and not how CP efficient your attacker was?

If it wasn't worth listing in this question (and isn't 1800+ CP with just garbage IVs so you didn't want to) then I'd say transfer it. So yes, transfer all the under 1000CP ones and then all of the under 1500 ones you didn't list here as well.

It takes 66 candies to power from 20 to 30. So you have enough to power 1 Snorlax that much, with enough leftover to power 1 more of your higher leveled Snorlax.

I didn't realize you had that many candy. I'd power the 14XX in that case (I like Hyper Beam better than Body Slam on defense).

When attacking an enemy gym, prestige is strictly based on how many pokemon you beat. When attacking (training) an allied gym, prestige depends on CP efficiency. I don't think Snorlax is an ideal attacker in either situation though - the only time I could imagine using Snorlax to attack would be against a gym with multiple Lapras (as other options in to Lapras may not survive more than 1 battle). I'd rather attack with Vaporeon in to anything that doesn't resist her, and Exeggutor in to most that resist Vaporeon (obviously outside of Lapras, and would use Lapras against Dragonite obviously).

An attacking Snorlax will use up a lot of potions, but otherwise is still really strong. So it depends if you have really good alternative attackers. With that many candy, I could support powering up the "ideal attacker" you identified in the question after the 14XX defender, if you feel like you need another attacking force.

Thanks for your advice. I am gonna power up the 1484 and use him on attack and defense. I transferred a few snorlax and I am at 102 candy now...I want to keep some of my sub 1500 CP ones just because of all the Gengar I'm expecting to see in gyms. Snorlax is the perfect counter, even with Earthquake

Zen and HB, its #1 for defense and A for Attacking if you want the hybrid.

If you want pure attacker, I would do lick HB.

Snorlax isn't a great offensive pokemon in my opnion. Its quick moves doesn't get STAB and its normal charge moves doesn´t make super effective at no one. I would go for 1716 CP: - 76% Zen Headbutt, Body Slam. It IVs are ok and the moveset is excellent for defense.

I'd start with the 1484 one since you have so many candy and it has 12% higher IV and a very good def moveset. Max CP is super important for staying power in Gyms IMO.

Set another Snorlax as your buddy & you'll probably have enough stardust to power up a second Snorlax by the time you get the candy for it! I'd go with the 1716 one next, since it has the second highest IV and the best moveset.

I'd honestly power them all up eventually unless you have some really nice Lapras to walk instead (if you don't continue to get better ones). Snorlax and Lapras are so much better than any other Poke on defense that even a suboptimal moveset low IV one is worth it.

Both 1716/76% and 1484/88% are beasts to defend and good choices to power up. I would power the 1484 one cuz of the IV/max CP and ya thats the hybrid (A for defense and attack). The 1978/64% one have too low IV and its not B for defending (its C), just keep with him the way he is.
