Would you powerup a Gyarados with a weak moveset?

Im quite a bit running out of high cp pokemon, dont catch anything good and worth evolving/or has again bad movesets.

So i was hessitating about maybe powering up two Gyarados' of mine evolved months ago and turned out to have twister...

Due to the fact i havent catch anything great to put in gyms the last months im catching a lot of dust 700k at the moment.

so the question, would you powerup a 2635 and 2310 gyarados with 88 and 89 iv, pure to get to the higher levels in a gym?

It will do what it is designed for - holding a high place without really defending. This is a bit egoistic behaviour, not really strengthen your own teams gyms but taking a high position, but the actual gym-mechanics forces this behaviour.
Just do it, as everybody else does it too.

Of course, you could place a real defender (Steelix or Slowking) at the bottom platform - waiting to be kicked out from your own team (with help of a second account) - you feel good, but this will not be rewarded with the actual system.

Great response, to be honest I do like to get a more uncommen gym fighter in the gym with regular high cp like Flareon, Exeggutor or maybe Machamp. But they simple dont spawn much in my area. And when I evolve one I havent had the luck of getting one with a great moveset.

lets hope they do a decent change with the Gym changes ( if it ever comes )

Yes, power them up. Because that's what the game requires from players right now. You can feel bad for the lousy gym mechanics, but don't feel bad for yourself in capitalizing on what the game asks of you.

I would love for gym mechanics to be better than this, but as long as it still works like this, I am all for getting high cp Pokemon for better gym placement.

I'm not really sure why there is still so much hate for twister Gyarados after the update. It hits a lot harder than it used to and I simply can't dodge the stupid thing. I haven't faced a crunch Gyarados yet, but of the other charge moves, twister is by far the most annoying. I personally don't see a problem with powering one up and using it in gyms, I would just try to avoid being that person to stick a 3rd or 4th Gyarados in a gym.

mmm... experience with my jolteon: I attack, do not dodge because bite is mostly harmless. Then

  • Hydro-Pump without warning - Jolteon is dead.
  • Dragon-Pulse without warning - Jolteon is almost dead
  • Twister without warning - Jolteon loses some life.

HP is trickier to dodge than before, but I still dodge HP the majority of the time because I know when it is coming. DP and O are both very easy attacks to dodge. One twister doesn't hurt, but after 3 of them, poor Jolteon isn't feeling too good...

Personally, the key to dodging 3-bar charge moves is to get used to the rhythm. There aren't that many types of Pokemon to get used to, and with some adjustment due to difference to cp, you should be able to anticipate when the moves will come, and whether they will be launched consecutively.

It probably is much easier to get used to for people that normally dodge everything. I don't typically dodge quick attacks, so twister is really annoying.
