Why is Muk defensive Tier4?

Pros : Good base stats, correct CP, only two type weaknesses. Decent defensive quick attack

Cons : Weak to Exeggutor which is a common attacker BUT Dark Pulse is efficient vs Psychic

I would guess that the ground weakness is a biggy as well. Lots of pokemon with access to strong ground moves like Earthquake.

Dark Pulse may be the best defensive move, but it doesn't seem like a great threat without STAB. Sure, it's super in to Psychic, but without STAB it's the same bonus as something that only had STAB. Plenty of Rhydon/Golem and various others (e.g. EQ Snorlax or Bulldoze Arcanine) that can presumably fight in to one with Dark Pulse quite easily.

Also the CP may be there, but the base stats may not. He may just not survive long enough to be a big threat. Maybe most Exeggutors can kill him before he casts his first Dark Pulse.

Disclosure: I've actually never fought against a Muk in a gym.

Darkpulse comes quite fast, you wont kill a 2200 Muk before it.
Darkpulse does more damage than sludge wave and gunkshot in defense even without bonus despite having no stab. So it's a pretty good defensive attack, cooldown a bit long though.

For me it should be Tier 2 or at worst tier 3. When I see Omastar tier 2, im like "wtf, it'sa joke". Medium stats, double weakness to ground, best defensive quick attack is watergun......

I don't think groung weakness is that big of a deal since people wont choose their team for muk when attacking alvl 10 gym. Nidoqueen/King, Golem, Rhydon are unlikely in their 6 favorites attackers because ground type is useless or even uneffective against many tier 1/1,5

I rarely find lv 10 gyms - typically they max out at lv7/8 round here (no team dominates the area so gyms rarely last 24hrs) so do use a ground attacker or Arcanine with bite/bulldoze (not a great move set but versatile).

I'd probably rank him tier 3 though...
