Evolution Items & Buddy

I've seen some comments stating that if you buddy up a pokémon that needs a evolution item to evolve, the drop rate for that evolution item will increase. Is that true? Can't test it right now since there's no pokestops around.

I've buddied Larvitar since day 2 of gen and have gotten every possible evo item 2x. I think its up to chance.

That doesn't in any way disprove the hypothesis. If you had buddied one of the pokemon that uses an evolution item, and had the same result, it would be more meaningful.

Making one of them a buddy, and then getting 1 item to suit that particular mon would not be any more meaningful.
